Disk overall health assessment is: Unknown

Yesterday, suddenly every recording I pressed play on the box would freeze. I ran the various diagnostics in WebIf and nothing showed, disk diagnostics showed all green smart data and no warnings.

As a long shot, this morning I installed the system flush and then reinstalled the custom firmware, then on installing WebIf, I see the health assessment warning.

Before christmas I'd installed the recommended Segate pipeline 2TB, and followed the instruction on this forum to the letter. It's been fine ever since, but suddenly these issues appeared.

Any help appreciated.

What exactly did the warning say? Please post the output from disk diagnostic.

Where did you buy the replacement hard drive?

It didn't say anything below the "Disk overall health assessment is unknown" , other than "don't panic" and ask on the forum. No details of any specific issues like I see on the wiki disk errors page. The message was not on the diagnostics page, rather seemed fixed to the header area.

Having read some more on the wiki I went ahead and ran fixdisk through maintenance mode telnet, will post results when done.

Either Amazon or Scan, can't remember. It was proper brand new sealed stock, not reconditioned.

"Disk overall health assessment is unknown" means that there is no saved SMART data against which to compare, as if you'd just reinstalled -- oh, you did.

Freezing typically occurs when a video file appears corrupt. If SMART was all green before, the filesystem is suspect. Your decision to run a fixdisk is what would have been recommended.

Thanks to you both for the help. The results of fixdisk did show a few errors corrected on sda2.

So far it seems to be behaving ok, just ridiculously slow trying to access content of folders, "processing...".

In case it's of interest:

Did you try the simple expedient of turning the power off and back on?

Simple enough question, genuine enquiry, and so far as I have noticed not previously mentioned. It wasn't obvious you are a complete cretin but if that's how you want to label yourself that's fine with me.
