HDRs All Getting Hot

I have four HDRs all running the latest CF including fan and the beta webif.

I got a temperature warning on one of them. On further investigation I found that sysmon on all four boxes is showing the fan kicking in and out routinely, but only since about about 5:00 this morning. Sysmon shows no previous occurrence of the fan automatically starting in the past 30 days.

I have external timers reboot each of the boxes at about 5:00 each day, but I am guessing that it just invoked a package update.

I have tried tweaking the fan settings and rebooted, but I suspect the fan package has stopped working.

Any ideas? Anyone else got this?

Strangely enough, both my HDRs in the last few weeks have independently had the high temperature warning. One a couple of days after the other.

I have the fan package installed on both boxes with the fan/s set to spin at 40%. This has worked well for many years, even in the recent hot weather.

When I got the high temperature warning, I confirmed that the fan/s had stopped working.

My 'fix' was to run the fix-flash diagnostic AND reboot. I have no idea why this happened and did think it was a bit weird that it happened on two separate units.

FWIW both units are set up identically with same CF and packaged installed.

Crash.log for HDR3, (last modified 05:16 today) helpfully refers to itself for further details and has no meaningful date for the last crash. - Oddly there seem to a lot of crashes after 13 or 14 (minute?) uptime, on all the boxes. The top 4 lines of the log are identical on all four HDRs, apart for a slightly different uptime on one.

Clearly not all crashes get recorded in this log.

I have four boxes, so I get the crash / some packages disabled message about three times a week for one or other of the boxes, so I might have expected this to happen before, if it was fan disabled. The 30 day Disk Temperature looks like this on all four boxes.

I have tried fix-flash-packages and a reboot, but possibly too early to see effect. I also should have stated that the boxes are in two different rooms.

Just checked my two and both showing an increase in temperature also. Normally run at about 42 but now showing close to 50.
 
What version of the ir package is installed? The latest beta version 1.20 may cause crashes but shouldn't be installed automatically. It has since been withdrawn.

Edit: fix-flash-packages will probably have reverted it to version 1.17.

Not showing as installed on HDR3 and two other boxes (homepage icon missing also).

Version 1.20 on HDR2. It must have been automatic, as I have not updated.

Edit. Just checked and version 1.20 is one available to install.

In the 'Auto Package Update' settings, do you have Automatically update beta packages enabled?
 
It should be turned off if you don't want the box to have potentially unstable packages automatically installed.

I accept that. I was merely reporting an issue.

Are you suggesting that the ir version 1.20 has interfered with the fan package’s functionality or that it caused crashes which disabled fan and other packages?

Fix-flash-packages and force installing fan seem to make no difference on the two boxes I experimented on.

The ir package is causing crashes on startup which the CF detects and then disables all the packages which could be the culprit.

Were there any errors when fixing the flash packages? This should fix fan but there may still be a problem with ir. You will need to reboot afterwards.

The ir package has uninstalled on this HDR. When I ran it on HDR2 (the only one with IR still installed), I recall that it threw up an error.

Looks like it is now running on HDR4 not so obvious on other boxes. Will run fix-flash-packages and reboot each box in turn.
