Help with 'auto' log please

Can someone please explain what's going on here:
Specifically, all the 'Set titles' for "/media/My Video/New The Kings Cross Fire 6 Hours ". I guess it might be something to do with my Sweeper rule here.
And why all the entries for 'The apprentice' at the bottom of the file ending with the 'Plug in failure' at line 2663. I suspect that I could have been 'chase playing' that immediately after 'I'm a celeb'.

No matter. I have fixed the problem by renaming the Kings Cross file.
But what I am now a bit concerned about is that this renaming problem has been going on for a long time with no warning that it was happening. It was only by chance that I looked at the auto.log that I found it.

So let's have a look at the relevant Sweeper rules then - I assume you are doing something like newk used to do. The loop appears to me to be renaming and then the new name is triggering the rule again (because it's been renamed something virtually identical).

I shortened the name that appears in the video list to "Kings Cross Fire 16-11-17 2104.ts (3.38 GiB)", The file names in Explorer are all "Kings Cross Fire 16-11-17 2104.xxx", and the Media Title (from Opt+) is "Kings Cross Fire" and no longer have the auto.log runaway.
As I said above, it was not only the direct loop 'problem' but the fact that it had been going on for so long with no warnings. Not sure how the latter could be achieved though.

I am pretty sure that "The Apprentice" 'loop' was caused because I was probably watching it in 'Chase play'

Note that "title" is not the file name. The file to be altered is listed, and the target title is listed. What you are not seeing in the log is the original title that has triggered the action. It strikes me that the second occurrence of a colon in the title might be confusing things.

So you propose some code should be looking for any event that occurs repeatedly and flags it up as a possible malfunction (even when it might not be)? The overhead might be a reasonable thing to build into the code for a safety-critical system, but it's rather OTT for this!

You can't predict what might happen when the code breaks due to input that exceeds its capability. We await the analysts to dissect it and determine whether the supposition is correct: that your specific input was not being handled in the intended manner.

It was just thinking out loud. But checking if a log file is growing at an unusual rate should not have too much of an overhead.

It's the problem of the unknown unknowns. If you have space and time (ie. money) to code a lot of error trapping then you can easily (?) catch the known errors, and you can lay traps to catch some of the known unknowns, but for things that you haven't predicted ...
And sometimes (usually most times) you just don't have the resources to do all that and it's down to fixing the bugs when they are reported.

ATM, nothing. No update in auto.log and name in media list (on the T2) is still prefixed by "New ". Should not have sweeper changed this by now?
