User "Trilobite" over at Digital Spy has posted the following information:

"Navigate to:
  • Freeview Play (the white 'F' button)
  • Settings cogwheel, on top right of the page
  • Freeview Play Preference
  • scroll right down to System Information (just above the two Reset options)
  • OK
  • 'System Information' appears, against a somewhat golden-green-copper background
  • press the following colour buttons: RED - GREEN - YELLOW - BLUE - BLUE

A hidden developer's menu will appear with six options spread across the screen:

MDS UAT Server: false
MDS Server Overrides: false
Current MDS Server
Enable CpAPP TestLink: false
Cpu Scaling Governor: ondemand
DetailInfocrid show: false

I selected the last option (the CRID)... use OK to toggle between false and true

CRIDS are now displayed on the EPG - 'i' detailed information page, right up at the top of the screen, in white text."

Any thoughts about what the MDS UAT server might be or what the CpAPP TestLink might be used for?

Great stuff! Out of curiosity, what does the 3rd option do? The title looks benign/safe, maybe the result will give/lead to useful info?

The third option only seems to query the server, based on whether Options 1, 2 and 4 are set to True or False.
Thus with False, DigitalUk server is the default.
With True, FreeviewPlay server is returned.

Another secret menu : DEVELOP WEB MODE

Navigate to:

  • Freeview Play (the white 'F' button)
  • Settings cogwheel, on top right of the page
  • Freeview Play Preference
  • scroll right down to System Information (just above the two Reset options)
  • OK
  • 'System Information' appears, against a somewhat random coloured background
  • press the following colour buttons: RED - GREEN - YELLOW - YELLOW - YELLOW

DEVELOP WEB MODE
appears on a black screen, with three options (on my box - press OK to select the option):

  • a link to live BBCtvapps (BBC CATAL - seems to have lots of options)
  • a link to ITV app (appears to be the ITV Hub)
  • a link to hbbtv1 Test Suite (doesn't seem to do much on my box at all) - I had to press the Freeview Play button to exit this option.

I also came across another setting, albeit minor...

In the Channel Signal Strength display page, press RED - GREEN - YELLOW - BLUE - BLUE.

It seems to toggle between 'Screen Mode: On' and 'Screen Mode: Off', if done quickly enough. What that is, I do not know.

The BBC CATAL has various tests and testcards, such as UHD wildlife footage, and there were other tests of HD style, for Drama, Soap and Strictly.

The Drama one was of Jodie Whittaker's Dr Who debut.
