Is it time to jump ship - to Aura

I have had a Fox T2 running custom firmware for many years.
However it’s getting unreliable …. heading ultimately towards being a terminal case.

Is this a good time to buy an Aura, should I wait for the base application update people talk about …. or is there a newer, faster Aura Mk2 due in foreseeable future ?
 
The Aura is certainly much more flawed than T2 ever was and many of the flaws are not consistent to all boxes, some flaws are regional and some peoples boxes are riddled with problems that others have never had. The new Android update coming in the new year may address the flaws but I would not bet on there not still being issues. Many have abandoned Humax due to the Aura and bought a Manhattan T4R but it has 1 less tuner than an Aura and has it's own issues. The way things are going I would not be at all surprised if the Aura will be the last PVR manufactured by Humax. Streaming only with pay or endure ads seems to be the future that will be forced onto us, no need to record if everything is always available to stream so do you want to pay in full or installments for your new mattress topper ?

No, I appreciate the suggestion but don't want to try to learn coding.
FoxT2 has been OK, changing HDD and transferring data, and a system flush was as deep as I want to go :-)

Seems like Aura isn't the answer at the moment, I'll stick with ailing T2 for a few more months.

I bought another HDR T2 from ebay when mine failed a couple of years ago and it is my main box.
I also have a HomeRun box as a backup system, currently mainly for watching Live TV on Laptop.
There is no coding required (unless you want to)
I use the excellent free DVRonTime software for recording and there is also ad detection software available which I haven't tried yet.
Others are happy to use the Homerun supplied recording software which has an annual fee.
 
I'm not overly familiar with a Pi solution, but it would only be a case of assembling the hardware and installing enthusiast software, ready made the same as CF.
