Password Leaks

Received today.
Thank you for contacting Humax.
The latest we heard was that the update will be delayed unfortunately.
It was supposed to be available by the end of last year and now the latest estimate is the first quarter of this year.
Apologies, I wish I had a better response for you.

Better than nothing...
Your password is available to everyone.

Why does this keep happening? Is it user error or Forum fault?

Always the negative one, but hopefully you will believe it when it is released.
I also do not believe in Santa, the tooth fairy or the words of politicians. I prefer to live in reality where facts rule over fantasy and Humax support have constantly provided nothing but :poop: and hot air since this update was first mentioned over a year ago and every expected quarter year since. There is no excuse for it taking this long.

Believe what you want to believe!

It says "From UK" now so someone is listening even if we still have not been given an explanation as to why this keeps happening.

No :poop: Sherlock, now try and see his original post, he is at least the third account I have seen with the password showing as their location and all passwords are similar.
Passwords are similar as we have all no doubt used the Google suggested password feature.

I flagged this error but got no reply. The sign up feature is broken

It is so long since I joined that I did not know that feature existed, that also explains why clicking on the password took me to google maps. It would be nice if Brian explained what was going on even if only to warn people rather than behave like Barry on the other site who just totally ignored anything he did not want to answer.

I don't have access to all admin areas, but a simple search online suggests that the issue is likely user error in letting an auto fill service populate various sections during the registration process.

Thank you for at least replying. Is it a new feature that has been recently added as it is only recently that the issue has been noticed. As several people have now made the same "user error" maybe the feature should be removed to prevent the influx of new members that will appear when the other site finally meets its maker from also making a "user error".

What issue? I presume post 7 has been redacted to remove the issue. If by "new feature" you mean auto-fill, that's a feature of web browsers not the forum software.

Why is this being discussed here and not in Forum Issues?

When hovering on your pic it gives your location as From Mendip / Mynydd Machen but the OP.s and other recent members gave From as a series of numbers and letters that were the passwords to their account allowing anyone to gain access. (post 7 was not made by the OP) It has been discussed here due to the OP being affected and another previous victim responding here and others replying.

I guessed that.

Yes, because that's what I set up in my forum profile.

From as a series of numbers and letters that were the passwords to their account
Oh really! So somebody or something has confused the "Location" entry box (a required field) with a password box. It does sound like the sort of thing automation might do, perhaps even a robot.

I still think this should be split out to Forum Issues, it would be easy enough to leave a link to it in this thread.

The fact that I have spotted at least 3 members affected recently and never before suggests to me that something in the system has changed rather than Brians "user error" reason, clearly it is an important enough problem to given its own thread and immediate attention by those in power here so feel free to start it off.

Here are a couple of links from 2020 from the XenForo user forums which seem to be describing something similar.

If the numbers are that high and the issue has been going on for at least 6 years surely it should have been addressed even if you had to remove having a members location as a field to fill in. I would not be at all surprised if this is not the reason for all the bogus members who show as last seen viewing members list, ripe pickings to get peoples details.

I can remove the Require location field from the user Registration setup.
