Loads of auto.log entries

The Dumb One
I have a load of entries in my auto.log and two other logs that start with auto followed by a date/time.
They all seem to be related to sweeper? trying to, and failing rename recordings.

The rules for "The" are a bit of a problem.
You want to search for "The ", but are actually searching for "The" (i.e. without a trailing space), which will find Their and Them not to mention a trailing "The".
The resulting rename action will then not find any "The " to replace, hence it try to rename to the original name!
What you need is a search for "The ", but I cannot remember how you get that...

For now, start by disabling the last 2 rules and see what problem reports remain.
 
I think that another part of the problem is that several of the rules rename from %orig, which means that (for example) in one rule the _ is replaced, but then the The rule shifts the The but puts the original _ back again. A hazzard of renames that consist of a series of rules, executed one after another.
I suspect the solution is to replace the %orig with either %title or %filename (depending on which you are trying to change).
I am away from my HDRs at the present, so cannot test myself, but that may give you a starter...

Ignore that, there is more wrong than right here; it helps if I remember to read the log text from bottom upward!

Thanks for that. I had a suspicion that it was something to do with that. I'll give it a try later and report back. Whatever it is, it is happening every 20 mins or so.

I tried replacing %orig with %title etc. It screwed up somewhere and added all kinds of stuff to the title.
Will have a read and try again. (perhaps)

I can't find some of the log files to delete the 'overflow' versions. Where are they? Specifically auto.log and recmon.log. I have cleared out the contents but want to delete the files. It would be good if the Diag/View Log Files display showed the path to the file that is being edited.

I was just trying some tests... What I said in the first post is probably ok, (except I cannot find a way of setting "The " as the initial search.
As for what I said about %orig in the second post... at least some of that is B***, but there is certainly something cyclic going on.
The log files are in /mod/tmp
 
I noticed the BS. It turned "Keith Richards - Origin of the 23-07-16 2101.ts (3.71 GiB)" into " _media_My Video__media_My Video_ media My Video media My Video media My Video Keith Richards - Origin of the 23-07-16 2101 ts ts ts_ts_ts.ts (3.71 GiB)". Not only that it did the same to loads of my recordings, but I can't understand why it didn't screw them all up.

Thanks for the pointer to .log files. I wonder why W10 search didn't find them (rhet)

Does detectads or something use the same temp location as my current recording shows all the files in there as well as the My Video folder?

Looking at \mod\var\mongoose\plugin\detectads\detectads.jim it does look like detectAds uses it.
 
Its not perfect, but changing the search to "The *" (without the quote marks) should eliminate the error reports that you had through mis-matching Them or Their...

It was certainly the "The" that was the problem. I have remmed out the last three and that has got rid of the runaway. I'll try the "The *" thing tomorrow.

Does not the space that I had between 'the' and the ',' work then to find the word with a space following?
 
Your problem was that the condition "filename The action" didn't care about spaces, so happily finds Their. The "%orig%replace,The ,," was then searching for a "The " to replace, couldn't find one so tried to rename back to the original filename and reported the error. Then, ten minutes later, it did the same again, etc, etc, etc. Hence my change to force it not to find the Their in the first place. So, "The " gets removed and then the rule stops being triggered.
 
Thanks for the explanation. I think I see and to paraphrase you, it's the filename condition that finds the "The " in "Their" but the action cannot find a "The " to replace with nothing so it just renames it as the same and fails with the error?
Now for another Q. In the log I have a few like this that have been subjected to :

Although the "The" is not at the start of the title, why doesn't the SetTitle rule remove it? It is removing the "The" prefix though on other titles.
Just about to give the filename "The *" a try. I'll report back.
 
When I try the code you suggest in #10 in the text editor and 'Return to sweeper' I get an 'error' message 'Unknown criterion (*) for both the Title and the Filename code. Pse advise what I am doing wrong.
 
What might be useful in Sweeper is the ability to filter out the 'NOMATCH' lines in the "Test config" 'printout' so that it is more easy to spot what it is actually doing to the stuff in which there is a match.
 
I will take a look when I get home, but I am sure I just copied from my WebIf straight into the code fragment that I posted.

I have spotted your deliberate mistake :) I'll give that a go later, thanks. Easy enough to forget curly brackets. But when you are dealing with a dunce, the odd curly brackets make all the difference between success and abject failure.
