Migrate config to new blank HDD without imaging.

Hi guys,

My HDR has been showing increasing disk errors over the past few months. It's now up to 143 reallocated sectors, so time for a new HDD. I've got some time over off over the next few weeks, so hope to replace the HDD.

From my understanding, I should be able to mount the current disk in an HDD caddy to copy the recordings onto the new HDD once I've got the new disk installed, formatted using the stock firmware and the custom firmware installed.

Where I'm struggling is how to backup and restore my config. Is there a way to backup the config to a file I can read off somewhere?

I know there are instructions on how to migrate an existing HDD to a new HDD, but these seem fairly long and complicated requiring a PC with Linux in places to clone the original disk to a new disk. TBH, I'm looking to simplify this process if possible.

If there are any known problems with my plan, please shout. Any advice would be welcome.

No, because the config. is spread over many files and directories.

It's fairly easy using rsync. Here are some ideas:

Personally I would prefer to install from scratch. It doesn't take long, providing you make a note of what packages you have installed, and it means a clean installation and jettisoning anything that is no longer of interest.

TBH, I'm only really interested in the recording schedule, and the channels I've removed. Where are the backups for the recording schedule stored? Hopefully I can then copy those over from the command line.

I agree. A clean slate is always a better option. :)
