New versions of customised firmware

Hello. When new versions of the customised firmware come out, can you just overwwrite your existing firmware without affecting your recordings? Thanks

Yes.

In the very worst case the system could get bricked by some update failure (unlikely) but the disk with your recordings would almost certainly be unaffected and the recordings could be accessed through a replacement machine if you have decrypted them (which is consistent with the deleted folder you mention in another post) or recorded the encryption key from the old box.

The firmware for the HDR-FOX is not stored on the HDD. The HD-FOX doesn't even have a HDD! Updating the standard firmware didn't wipe your recordings, and neither will the customised version of the firmware.

Why ask now? There hasn't been an update to the custom firmware for several years.

Why ask now? Because there is newer firmware available than what's on my Hummy. I'll give it a go...

From the Web-if Main Screen select Diagnostics and scroll to the bottom left of that screen to see System Information including Encryption Key info.
