Permanent Clock on Front Panel

Is it possible to have the clock on the front panel permanently, even when the HDR is off like on the HD?

even when the HDR is off
What do you have on the front panel in standby (not off!) then? If you see nothing, that's because you have power saving enabled: Menu >> Settings >> System >> Power Management >> Power Saving in Standby... or you have the power off at the mains!

If it is actually there but very faint, that's due to the VFD becoming old and dim. As the VFD is greeny-blue, but with an orange filter over it, a great deal of light from it is lost and it is a useful mod to remove the filter (especially with an ageing VFD).

If you want the clock to be present when the unit is not in standby (instead of the channel name), see the redring package.

NB: The post in the redring thread refers to "LCD" – this is inaccurate, it should be VFD. See Glossary for details.

Yes.

On the Humax set power saving in standby to "Off".
And on the WebIF if you have RedRing installed set the display brightness for "When In Standby" to high enough that you can see it. You will need to ramp this up a bit every year as the display wears out faster, and when you have the PVR switched on sooner or later the characters where the clock is displayed will become noticeably dimmer.

There is also another way of the clock not showing. There is a package called "redring". By setting the display brightness for "When In Standby" to 0% the cock will not show.

thanks for your replies. Guess I just need to turn the power saving off
Also consider whether you want to acquire a backup to the front display now that some of it is going to burn out earlier and make it difficult to see.
