RS failed on *Astrid*Paris*

I have RS set to match on any channel event title as per the title of this post (if I type it here I goes in as Italics, grrr). For one box it should just email me, for the other it should schedule the series. A new series of Astrid in Paris starts Friday on More4, and if I click on the RS button to show matching events it finds it. But RS has neither emailed me about this nor scheduled it.

I don't know, I haven't checked rs.log on my boxes. However I can say the HDR Fox T2s are on wired ethernet through a gigabit switch back to the router so I don't suspect local network issues, unlike your experience.

But I don't suspect local network issues either – other people might, but I say the mix of wifi and powerline rules that out. If the symptoms are similar, it's worth a hypothesis that the cause is too.

It works for me, appears in both email and queued commands:

Does the RS Homepage correctly show your recording schedule?
If you manually schedule a recording from the RS EPG does it appear in the queued commands list and eventually in the recording schedule?
Do you have RTS (real time schechuling) turned on in Humax? Settings->Advanced Settings

Well you know what the obvious next step is then don't you?
Network errors are expected evening of 18 Jan, power was out to a third of the estate for 40 minutes and that included the FTTC cabinet so I had no broadband. Clearly it has no working battery backup, it died immediately the power went out. Fortunately for me the lights just flickered briefly.

Yes for both HDR Fox T2s.

Appears in queued commands list on both boxes and eventually in recording schedule on both boxes (I scheduled a reboot on them both in RS).

No, never used that.

There's no evidence of anything amiss there, so whatever the problem is is probably at the server end, but only one person has access to that.
It probably worth pruning most of those logs as it's no longer of any interest.

I think I've spotted the problem. I've had these RS auto events for years for the last two series, and RS for both boxes says it notified me about these in 2023:

If I delete and recreate the auto events in RS, finding the matching events no longer says it informed me of them in 2023. Whether is is a broadcaster error re-using series IDs or a bug in RS I can't say.

EDIT: Using the Reset option on the auto event also clears the date it last informed me. I guess once a series is over I need to go into RS and reset the auto event to ensure I get informed of the next series. Getting a repeat of one I've already watched is a lesser problem.

Those log appear to be at least 10 years old, they refer to recordings dated 2013 and 2014. Also entries are not timestamped while more modern versions bo have timestamps
I've just updated packages on my boxes, I probably last did it 6 months to a year ago. But RS was not among the packages updated so I was already on the latest RS. And what is wrong with files that start 10 years ago? Old files don't stop working. I don't spend my time needlessly deleting or clearing out old files.

Sorry I didn't scroll down to the bottom 😧

That is RS working as designed - RS works by text matching and doesn't use the series id at all.
It doesn't want to notify you or attempt to reschedule the series every time a new episode appears so it remembers when it has done a notify/schedule and doesn't notify again.

There is a refresh button on each rule which will remove the notification information and make the rule eligible for processing again - not need to delete and recreate

Ah, I wasn't aware of that.

I'd found that on playing with the auto event for my second box. I'll have to remember to use it once the last episode has aired.

It would be good if RS did remember which Series ids it had scheduled - this would help with BBC series where the id changes with every new "series" even when it is just a continuation of an ongoing programme like Countdown.
OTOH Channel 4 tends to use the same series id for all series of a programme (on the same channel & time-slot) - Countdown has been using the same series id for donkeys years. So it is quite likely that your last recording schedule for Astrid in 2023 would have popped back to life if you didn't do a schedule cleanup in the meantime

However @af123 is no actively enhancing RS so it is unlikely that we will see changes.

I've used the web UI to clear all the log files on both HDR Fox T2s to zero length, I hadn't realised just how long ago some of them started. I've also done my annual retune on both boxes, it was 24 Jan 2024 last time (I can tell from the last saved schedule backup).
