Subtitle Humour

I watched Newswatch (28/2) on i-player this morning and as I needed to keep the sound low (don't ask!), I put subtitles on. This proved to be the most entertaining 10 minutes or so I've seen in a while. The written interpretation of speech in it's inanity was brilliant. The use of the word boarded instead of bordered was my highlight. Trouble is, I missed the points raised due to watching the subtitles!
I think I might watch more 'live' programmes like this in future.

I get the same down at Wetherspoons (don't ask). TV is on BBC NEWS with muted sound but subtitles, and the "entertainment" is working out what the input to the speech recognition was.

It's made harder with live subtitles because they lag the visuals by about 10 seconds. So you can't easily lip read and often there is already someone else on screen by the time the written words appear.

I always get the news off the websites these days.
