Unexpected picture break-up

I seem to have quite a few of those recently which I put down to weather/possible poor signal.

However, watching a recording I had lots of them. Eventually I caught up with live so switched to the live channel and saw none. At the next ad break I rewatched the segment I just watched live and guess what : break-up again.

The disk diagnostic comes good. No reallocated

That's why I asked how the aerial is fed to the TV and the T2. If it's aerial > T2 > TV, then ....... But if it's Aerial > splitter then separately to TV and T2 then....... But if the 'live broadcast' is coming from the T2 via HDMI then.......

Could you post the full output of the disk diagnostic please.

When you said that you watched the same thing live and recorded - can you clarify the way you did this.
Did you record something (whilst watching it live) and play back the recording. Or watch live and time shift back in the ad break to watch something again?
If you did the second, then there is something very odd. However, if you did the first, I'm wondering whether you have got two versions of the same channel - one from a local transmitter, and one from another transmitter. If the T2 is recording the weaker version (for whatever reason), this could explain the problem. Which channel(s) are causing the problem?

It was a ITV HD recording. I started watching the recording which was still being recorded about 15 minutes after it started, skipping ads I got to the end of the recording ie the live point when the play stops and you get the media display. At that point I went to the ITV HD live. No breakups. At the next ad break I rewatched the segment I just watched live from the continuing recording where I noticed the breaks again when there was none in the live broadcast. I only have one ITV HD channel

I am not at home so can't compare the numbers with my drive but nothing leaps out at me. Are there any custom firmware processes running that might be consuming CPU time?

how can I find that out? not to say that the matter is now in the past.

Telnet in and run top the next time you think something might be wrong (but I can't predict when that might be). I take it this isn't a continual problem? Were any other recordings taking place when the problem item was recorded?

That was the only recording

Any problems with other HD channels? (BBC1 and BBC4 or Channel4+1 for example)?
I'm sure I had other recordings with break up but as I mostly watch them after the original broadcast I can't compare. I can't remember the various channels but I know for sure that it happened on BBC1 HD
