Uses for a dead HDD

#1: Use it as a base for a small pond pump.

FWIW the fixings for the pump are ex-Surrey Satellite space hardware.

No one's commented but I did strip it to just the two parts of the case plus the bare platters. It was just the right weight, footprint and height for the job.
