I just wanted to report that the WD AV-GP 4TB (WD40EURX) drive works, if you follow the instructions by the clever bods on here (just in case this is of use to anyone choosing a drive).
I was using a WD20EARS 2TB drive before, and would say that the WD40EURX is, if anything, even a little quieter - and the 2TB was very quiet.
For what it's worth, I tried the Toshiba N300 8TB also, but couldn't get it to work. It was noticeably louder too, so perhaps it's for the best.
P.S. I use most of the features of the CFW, and have done for years, but never contribute anything, so a genuine thanks to all involved.
