Why the Flash?

There is a small invisible Flash item at the foot of each thread page. What is its purpose? I have FlashControl. Without that add-on you probably wouldn't even notice it at all.

I have now blocked the flash element with Adblock.

Hi Mike,

It's for the attachment handler. So for people without Javascript they get flash, and vice versa.

So, for those of us who block flash, and only allow it to run on request, what are the consequences? I can whitelist hummy.tv, but will Javascript take over if I don't?

(I hate navigating to a site, only to be blasted by a flash advert running in a frame. If I want audio on my web pages, I will choose where and when to listen to it, not have it sounding when people are reading or watching TV. That is why I use FlashControl.)
