ok deleted everything and redid the job . how long should this take? it's been stuck on this for about half an hour. also why does it take 2 hours when my internet speed should have dealt with it in 15 min or so. ethrnet plugged in.

also the t2 seems stuck even though the rs still sees it and the webif too.
Re. your above post, the connection to iPlayer is likely throttled so you won't get your full internet speed: it took one hour fifty two minutes to download 4.83 GB.
Do you have swapper installed (you should have it installed on the HDR-FOX, automatically)? If not, ffmpeg will run out of memory when fixing the AAC audio track of a download of that size and lock your box up.

why should the connection to iplayer be throttled?

i do have swapper 1.0.1 installed

I see, I thought you meant my end was being throttled.

What about the swapper thing?
Without Swapper there is not enough memory to process a large download. As you have it installed, there should be enough memory, so I don't know what is causing your problem. If it is still stuck, you could reboot and restart the download to reprocess the download file.

BBC I-Player Dynasties in UHD

BBC I-Player has trialled a few UHD programmes over the past year, e.g . :- Blue Planet II, FIFA World Cup 2018 and Wimbledon Championships 2018, but none of these are available any more, however they are currently making the new series 'Dynasties' available in UHD and HDR on selected Smart TVs via BBC I-Player.
The standard BBC I-Player link is :-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p06mvpsw/dynasties-series-1-1-chimpanzee

However when this link is entered into youtube-dl the list only goes up to 1280 X 720, I suspect that the UHD content has a different link as I found mention of :-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06mvmmr

Which appears to to be for the UHD version, however if this link is entered into youtube-dl you get this :-

Code:
Humax1# youtube -F https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p06mvmmr/dynasties-series-1-1-chimpanzee
[bbc.co.uk] p06mvmmr: Downloading video page
[bbc.co.uk] p06mvmmr: Downloading playlist JSON
[bbc.co.uk] p06mvmmr: Downloading legacy playlist XML
ERROR: Unable to download XML: HTTP Error 404: Not Found (caused by HTTPError()); please report this issue on https://yt-dl.org/bug . Make sure you are using the latest version; type youtube-dl -U to update. Be sure to call youtube-dl with the --verbose flag and include its complete output.

Has anyone managed to download a UHD version of 'Dynasties' form I-Player ?

The provider (BBC in this case) won't want people with fast connections gobbling up too much bandwidth so will limit the download speed.
well, i can easily play the 4k stuff from the iplayer which iirc requires 30meg or higher. how come they don't throttle that?

p06mvmmr is the series PID, as you can see by navigating to it, and isn't supported by yt-dl (yet).

p06mvpsw is the episode PID, but (as you note) the high resolution streams are only supposed to be available to certain "Smart" TV iPlayer apps. yt-dl doesn't know how to find these streams (yet). Perhaps no eagles with extremely large disk storage have contributed to the extractor.

The stream URLs are meant for viewing. Quite possibly, they are limited to real-time plus a margin for background buffering.

Yes, I wonder if Ethereal / Wireshark would reveal what my Smart TV is connected to while streaming Dynasties in UHD, I might give it a try

Please tell me about streaming Dynasties and others in UHD.
I have a couple of 4k TVs with iPlayer (amongst others) and a 38Meg download 'speed'.
Prime Video tells you what is in UHD, iPlayer doesn't.

AH. Just had another look and it does. It says UHD for episode 1, but nothing for Prequel. E 1 also says UHD on the info panel when it's playing and the picture Q ain't half bad.

You have to run BBC I-Player on a TV or Games Consol that I-Player recognises as a compatible 4K player, there is a compatibility list here :-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/latest-news/dynasties-uhd
If I-Player detects what it need it will give you different menus when you search programmes like this :-

UHD.png

Dynasties is the only programme available at the moment, although I think there is also a UHD demo in settings, My TV will play Dynaties in UHD but due to my crappy 4 mb/S broadband, I'm not sure what it is being reduced to
BTW
You don't need BBC I-Player Beta to get this working, I was just trying it out

Thanks for that EP. Seems that both my 4k TVs are then.

EDIT. Damn and Blast. It seems that my 43" LG is compatible, but my 48" Samsung isn't as it doesn't show Dynasties as UHD like the LG does. Wrong bloody way round.
