VISION CONNECT STREAM

Three new data services appeared on Mux D / Arq B. They are LCN110
VISION, LCN111 CONNECT & LCN112 STREAM. They are all served by a
single 23kbps stream which produces different captions on each
service. They appear to be an early version of iPTV over Freeview
requiring a DVB-T2 HD receiver with a broadband connection.

VISION is the most advanced application. The caption states
"Welcome to VISION - a TV channel network on Freeview HD".

It then detects whether you are using an HD box or not. If not it
states "- You do not have a compatible Freeview HD device -". If it
does detect an HD box it then looks for a broadband connection and
tries to connect with www.reach-tv.net. If no broadband connection
can be detected it shows an appropriate message. Otherwise it
downloads a different VISION logo from the server.

The website itself www.visiontvnetwork.co.uk is mentioned and it
appears to be a site inviting broadcasters to sign up and says
"available channels will be listed here after launch date" along
with "COMING SOON - Freeview channel 110 - Not just a channel, a
world of channels". Reach TV is the licensee of the services.

The other two channels just state that they are launching soon.
The requirement for an HD receiver is no doubt the mandatory
ethernet connection to broadband not usually found on SD boxes.
Also HD (DVB-T2) boxes have advanced and compulsory Mheg routines.
These pioneering iPTV services will be very interesting to watch how
they develop. In its last consultation DMOL suggested allocating
the whole 400 block of LCNs to iPTV. They obviously expect it to
become a major influence on Freeview.
