No way back I'm afraid, the branding is dependent on the ISP used to connect the box to the Internet. I understand it's more prominent now but obviously haven't seen it as I've prevented my box from updating.
All functions work, the 7 days back EPG, all the online players as well. I started blocking over a month ago.
From the wireshark logs it seems that all the individual on demand apps update from their channels servers not Youviews.
My plan is to hold out until functions that I use are...
In my opinion you should be wary of it as it degrades the usability of the box. And this should certainly be considered if looking to buy a Youview box as the OP is.

I would be wary of the new update that has been pushed out to Youview boxes. It has removed quite a few functions and changed the way you view recordings and navigate around recorded content.
Here's a post on the official Youview forums that explains a way of blocking the NextGen update which removes features and turns the recordings section of the box into a complete mess...
I'm pretty sure most non ISP routers can do that nowadays. On mine I have used a USB HDD and a USB pen drive successfully as a network share and also a UPNP server.

I have an ASUS AC68U running Merlins custom firmware. It's rock solid performance wise. If you're a 'tinkerer' or want more advanced features I would look for routers that can be flashed with ddwrt, openwrt or another custom firmware.
PC world currently has a few one for all remotes on offer. The ones with the learning function will allow you to replace any IR remote, as long as the universal one has more/same number of buttons.
