    TVI FAULT

Well, just hazarding a guess based on what tends to happen on other forums: new member signs up to ask question, gets alerted to a reply via email on another device (e.g. phone) on which they are not yet logged into the forum; they read some replies without logging in, and they then make a...

    HDR-FOX T2 HDD Replacement

Not sure which table you mean but I can't find any working links. (I was talking about the links to the files which enable/disable safe mode - e.g. http://hpkg.tv/rpc/cfwget.html?file=ENABLESAFEMODE) However that's moot now, since you were right about it not being necessary :) Yup, you nailed...

    HDR-FOX T2 HDD Replacement

I'm prepping for a HDD upgrade, but am unable to work out how to activate safe mode. It's not listed under Diagnostics on my system. I have an old version of the WebIF (details below), and maybe that's part of the issue. I also found information on the Wiki...

    RS Disk problem emails

Aha, some fun statistics! (Not clear to me why you're saying "oh dear" though. 3 failing out of 543 isn't too scary.) I am slightly puzzled that the disk with 8 pending sectors, which I'd therefore tend to assume is AF, has a realloc count which clearly isn't a multiple of 8. Oh well... It'll...

    RS Disk problem emails

Well, I don't feel strongly about the email frequency - once a day until ack wouldn't actually bother me, but neither would once-only (per count change) I guess. I had a look in the wiki, and I have a question about the bit that says "...recommended that a full maintenance mode disk check is...

    Pending Sector won't Reallocate

Well, I've had only the briefest of looks at the pieces needed to do the email warning thing. The main stumbling block for me tbh would be my almost total ineptitude with Jim. Pardon my ignorance, but is it fine to add functionality to the CF using the likes of shell scripts? (I'm presuming...

Accurate Recording: Downton Abbey & Lewis

Ahh, no, I just mean that the first time I hit "Media" after a cold boot, it starts at the top of the list, but after that, the media list starts wherever I left it last...

Accurate Recording: Downton Abbey & Lewis

Ahem, actually that was just a wink - somehow I've never spotted the tvdiary package - will go and check it out now! The other two also sound very useful, thanks. Yay for CF :D Agreed. Not so bad once you've been into the list since bootup, but irritating from cold startup.

Accurate Recording: Downton Abbey & Lewis

What's this "TV diary log" thing? Looks useful ;) I have an entry in activity.log which suggests AR worked OK for me too (on Beckley): 06/10/2015 22:02:13 - Recorded: New_ Lewis/New: Lewis (59 minutes - ITV) However AR has definitely screwed up a few times in the last couple of months (can't...

    iplayer makes the box crash

Hmm, I don't think I've ever noticed iPlayer giving trouble, although my box does seem to have crashed twice since I've installed the CF a few months back. My daughter uses iPlayer on it a lot - must ask her if it ever fails... Perhaps it could be debugged if somebody who can readily trigger...

    Pending Sector won't Reallocate

Glad it's fixed! I haven't figured out the whole AF thing myself yet. It doesn't seem to make much sense for disks to continue to report sector numbers etc. as if the sectors were 512 bytes long but I guess there are backward-compatibility issues all over the place. As for disks with read...

    Problems copying to USB disk

Thanks Luke. I think I'm starting to see the point ;) Where did you learn this background info?

    Pending Sector won't Reallocate

I'm not familiar with fix-disk. However, any pending sector can be "fixed" by just over-writing it. Perhaps fix-disk is getting mixed up about which sectors it's meant to overwrite. If it worked, you should have in general have seen the reallocated count going up and the pending count going...

    Problems copying to USB disk

Regarding the EPG & encryption, thanks for the clarification guys, and I must say that's even more beyond bonkers. You just couldn't make it up. IIRC, the EPG data is the main stuff that the strip program removes, right? I certainly don't want it in my files, making 'em bigger to no purpose...

    Disk failing

Generally speaking, yes, you can send email without any fanfare (or special setup), and of course invent your own "from" address along the way. Another option, more faffy of course, is to use the outgoing SMTP server provided by your ISP, which might then also require authentication (as does...
