HDD health and maintenance. Smart Self-test logs

Hi All, Firstly, I confess I am a little paranoid. but... How can I tell if my HDD is checking itself regularly? The table in the Disk Diagnostics section appears to be all offline / manual stuff but should it show up other more regular tests that the HDD does itself? (I could have sworn that...

    replacing hard disk

Stats are back and working now. :) Current stats below. 120 hours of error free running - let's hope it will continue now. However I think it is time to see what dual drive NAS drives are going for a good price this Black Friday! Let me ask a quesiton about that in a different post...

Hmmm, I thought I had updated it but maybe not (I assume you are talking about Webif). Let me update that! :) Is there an easy way to find out the difference between the two version?

    replacing hard disk

Hi All, Just picking up methods to initiate a HDD test... I was curious to try this method out to test the HDD without doing webif / telnet stuff. I assumed it would do a short test but it's now more than an hour and seems to be stuck at about 95% (it reached this wihtin a couple of minutes)...

2tb seagate skyhawk, 1st bad sector after 4 years

Do you always have to enter maintenace mode to run fixdisk to sort problems out? For the time being I've turned off timeslip / tsr thing as wanted to ensure that area was fully checked too.

Can anyone decipher this Crash log

Hi All, I've had occasional crashes/reboots, the latest was tonight half was through recording radio (bbc radio 1). This time I was on channel 250 (red button) about to turn the tv off and noticed that it rebooted / restarted. Webif showed up a message saying that it had crashed. So I chose...

    external USB transfer speed

Just been reading around, would i / could I use rsync? Is there any UI i can use or is this just command prompt for the humax? Not entirely sure how I would write the command in order to point to the usb drive. Thanks

    external USB transfer speed

Thanks for the replies. The recordings are all sd quality and pre decoded. So i would have thought it would simply be just doing a transfer process, ie more than 2mb/s transfer speed. I hear your point about 0.5mb/s rate but I'm just wondering if there is a way to transfer files faster, eg via...

Can Betaftp do resume / REST?

Hi All, I'm unable to download various .ts files without experiencing some form of drop out along the way due to my location and signal strength on occasions. I'm aware some ftp servers can resume downloads meaning i might then be able to down the files (eventually) without having to keep on...
