[youtube-dl] Download files from youtube.com or other video platforms

I've used a 5000T and the audio/video outputs to capture on a PC recording dongle (Hauppauge DVB-T Stick with component input) to capture some Walter Presents from C4 (streaming only) If they didn't f&@+ the ends up it would have been satisfactory. Unfortunately most other channels online streaming apps no longer work on the 5000T.

Yes, even the upstream version is broken because
1. YT started sending the challenge that had to be solved to get valid media links in a spaghettified form that was essentially impossible to extract and run in our toy JS interpreter.
2. The stopgap solution expired.
3. A subsequently discovered stopgap, if still working, hasn't yet been committed.
4. The yt-dlp solution would require at a minimum getting QuickJS to run on the Humax platform, which I have not yet done, plus back-porting a load of Python3.10 code to run on 2.7.1.

youtube-dl should continue to be usable (in fact the hack to use wget for network requests needs to be back-ported to the main repository so that we can use curl-cffi to break TLS sniffing, even if extractors that need that won't be supported here). Similarly, it's possible that impractical dependencies will make the version here notyoutube-dl; but even if the YT media link processing can''t be run locally there is yt-cipher, a web service that could be used directly or maybe hosted on hpkg.tv.

Well, it was really great while it lasted, and a huge “thank you” to all those who made it possible. WM Recorder on Windows and a file transfer to the Fox T2 HDR in future, if really necessary.
 
Nor so fast, though. We should still be able to do something with YT in the short term even if formats and logged-in features are limited.

If I or someone can get QuickJS running on the Humax platform, all bets are on, even if they may take eons to cash in. The author is the creator of ffmpeg which is already ported.

Stumbling block seems to be it needs a C compiler with c11 support and we only have a (cross-)compiler that does c99 (bypassing fenv.h and then falling over on stdatomic.h).

I'm still working with C90 compilers at work, with some C99 extensions eg long long for 64 bit integers.
 
There's a new working-for-now master version at github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl, with a downloadable version for your non-Humax platform at .../ytdl-nightly.
 
Yes, because there's no n-challenge with the selected YT client (and no player origin token required on the media URLs). Get it while you can.

and watch at my leisure :D (although it says 'Requested formats are incompatible for merge and will be merged into mkv' [webm + m4a] but that's by-the-by - I can live with that.

just have to convert it to something that the humax can play now! Does anyone know if this will need a full transcode to mp4 or are there any tricks anyone knows of? Eg I've learnt that iplayer videos sometimes input a different tag in the mp4 stream making it unplayable but all you have to do is convert the avc tag (from 3 to 1 or something like that) doing a straight copy and that made it work on the humax (https://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-user/2017-November/038060.html)

It works with "-f 18+140" and generates an mp4 which can be played without any further mucking about. A pre-step using "-F" is your friend (from the command line so you can see the output).

Am I missing the point? (Probably, I usually do!) 18 downloads audio and video and then 140 downloads audio. I've not tested to see if you get a video+2 audio tracks as a result, but I'm sure that isn't required. The "-F" would suggest, for the URL given in #775, that 134+140 (video only+audio) would be a more efficient solution.

Edit: Also, I've been trying to download a lot of episodes from a series using format 18 and there seems to be a lot of re-tries. Break it up into video+audio (effectively the same quality download) - no re-tries.

No, sorry, my mistake. I didn't read the output properly - usually the thing I want at the bottom is video only.
