Never had a captcha myself. The most I have had is a Qi code, but I just follow the Google link and enter the code show on screen.
Maybe as @MikeSh says your Google account needs to be activated.
The Aura will still wake up and record them, it just brings itself out of deep standby 15 minutes before I believe. I sometimes set late night programs and they record fine.
I use deep standby, but have it set to go into deep standby at 23:30pm and come out at 15:30pm every day.

Have you tried using the remote out of bluetooth range to see if the green light still stays on? Doing this may point to seeing if the Humax is sending out a signal which keeps the light lit? It may also help to determine if the button is sticking or not.

I have mine set so when I press the small power button (next to small tv button) it turns off the Aura, TV and Home Cinema all at the same time. If I want to just turn off the Aura, then I use the large power button
Agreed, but it did work once when they kept chopping and changing every other time.
Long time change I would always double check.
The old timers are supposed to delete after 13 weeks, but I’m not sure I have seen that happen. I just do a cull every now and then 😀
