I failed to find anyone locally that was prepared to remove the fried capacitor and fit a new one. So I ordered some off Bitsbox and did it myself - I am a cr*p solderer so it looks awful, but hey ho it worked. I can now use my Humax box again. Thanks for all your advice.

Thanks for the link you provided. It does appear to be the same problem and provides circuit diagrams. I am not an electronics engineer, just someone who hates throwing thigs away when they stop working. I will get it looked at by someone who does know what they are doing!

My HDR power supply has blown a capacitor (I think - see centre of picture). I assume that this is easy to replace if you know what you are doing? Any ideas about what sort it is so that I can get it replaced? Any help gratefully received.
