It would be great if we could work out how to fool it further into thinking the internal drive is connected, then recording and the DLNA server should work. You could then just stay in "HDR mode". Can't say I've got much time to look at it for a couple of weeks at least though :(
In case you've not yet seen it, there is a way to decrypt files on the HD-FOX T2. Not that straightforward, but possible! Details are at http://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Decrypt_recordings_on_the_HD-FOX_T2
First question is are you running the HDR code? The virtual disk doesn't seem to be writable in HD mode (and you get the behaviour you've described above). It would be a waste of time even if it did copy as the file would not be decrypted. In fact on the HD (running in HDR mode) its not even...
Afraid not - even when running the HDR code on the HD, I've not yet managed to get the media server to work (I suspect because it is looking to share the contents of the internal drive which doesn't exist). Because of this the options in the webif to download and decrypt do not work in either...
Maybe as the USB hub is old it is only usb1 and that might cause problems? I've tried a couple of hubs (both usb2) and they "just worked". I'm surprised you don't get enough power from the port for the drive though. I also use a drive which has an extra usb plug for power - on my laptop I need...
Thanks for that - portmap has sorted out the long delay. Nearly got the server working - seem to be getting permissions problems connecting though - will have another play this evening...

Correct.
The "virtual" drive is simply mapped to a folder called "virtual" on the main drive (be that the usb drive on the HD or internal one on the HDR), so it is simply a copy from one folder on the main drive to another, but set up to "fool" the box into thinking it is a external drive (and...
Just had a look and all you have to do once the package is on the hard disk is
opkg install [name of downloaded package file]
and it will istall it directly from the local .opk
eg after downloading and copying squashfs tools to the root of the usb drive, type
opkg install...
There are details of how to install packages from a usb stick at http://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Manually_loading_Features_from_USB. I've not tried it but I think it should work if you copied the package to the root of the usb hard drive (and renamed it to *.opk.auto and maybe rebooted), or you could...
I noticed this file (and was able to play it on a PC) when I was mucking about getting iplayer (as opposed to youtube) to work on the HD running the HDR elf. It only worked if I mounted hd1, 2, 3 and 4 to media/drive1 so it obviously relies on one of those drives (hd3 by the sound of it) being...
No DLNA server :( The main difference between this and .18 was that the portal became usable. I think they had left debug stuff in .18 that made it dog slow to the point of useless. As Brian says, it has been available for a while now.

Presumably though the driver loads into memory at boot up, so you can swap in different drive after boot. (or the HD can run multiple drives using a usb hub). Having said a networked drive is the easiest solution to just copying stuff to / from a computer.
ps While I'm here. xyz321 - you seem to...
Absolutely, go for it - I just rattled that out in the limited amount of time I had available, and it would be great if people can "flesh it out" and improve it. At some point (maybe when af123 has fleshed out the "how to make a package" guide ;)) it would be good to get the scripts into a...
Had a quick stab at compiling Samba myself, but after several minutes into the configure it hangs after the following:
...
checking for inet_ntop... yes
checking for inet_pton... yes
checking for getaddrinfo... yes
Any clues appreciated...
Since installing OsX Lion on my mac, smb shares both to and from my modded box have stopped working. Further investigation tells be this is because Apple have dropped Samba from Lion and replaced it with their own implementation which anoyingly only supports smb2, not smb1. For now I've been...
One frustrating thing about the HD-Fox T2 is that there is no way to play a recording on anything other than the box it was recorded on. Even a different HD will not play it. On the HDR-Fox T2 SD recordings can by decrypted simply by copying them to an external drive. With a little more effort...
