Unit freezes when playing mp4 files
I've had something like this where a corrupt/bad file has caused the machine to stop playing/freeze/unable to stop and becomes unresponsive to the remote - a reboot via the webif fixes it. Film Names have disappeared, replaced by synopsis
I haven't proved it yet, but I believe that an mkv file that the humax can't play properly, when it tries to index it in content sharing, will also cause the Humax in my case to become unresponsive to the remote and front panel buttons and only a webif reboot or power off/on can restore it...- Trevor Jasper

Replacement Hard Disk Recommendations
I fitted the 2TB drive (ST2000VM003) as per the af123 instructions (first drive had errors on install and was returned, second drive has been fine). Thumbnails - any configuration?
Just an idea - as the thumbnail is a grab from the start of the recording, could you use trim to cut the first bit off, and then the Humax will re-generate the thumbnail from the new start?- Trevor Jasper

Just to confirm my version of Twonky is 5, and I definitely have a problem with something on the network when turning on the DLNA server. network shares automount causes my hdr to crash
Does the box respond to the remote? Does it freeze at any other time? Can you reboot it by the webif? Is there anything in the logs suggesting it's struggling with anything regarding the share? T- Trevor Jasper

Interesting thought. Not sure why it would be linked to the problem of no response to the remote/front buttons, but then neither should unplugging have been any more effective than switching off, unless there was residual capacitance keeping nvram alive and not refreshing properly on boot up.... Well, an update. My 2Tb disk had arrived, so after posting the above, I thought it would be good to have a go at installing that, following in af123's footsteps... Top of the list for top when it had stopped responding was unsurprisingly the humaxtv process, followed by scanmounts. So I have removed networkshares-automount and issued a soft (web) reboot. Thanks, BH, but eliminated that with several full cold starts. Now the box is locking up (as in not responding to the remote or the front buttons) when just left on. :( Any ideas, anyone? Yes. When I removed the custom firmware, the only way (when you're impatient like me! - I didn't wait more than five minutes to see if it came back) was to power off with the switch. Overnight I ran the fix-disk from telnet in maintenance mode, and nothing strange there. I'm running badblocks -vv /dev/sda as well, just in case. When testing yesterday, it was freezing on audio files as well as video files. Something going wrong in the mp4 decoder? It seems to play sometimes...- Trevor Jasper

Thanks Ezra. Exceptionally weird. I tried playing the files from the NAS on the HD Fox and it's playing fine. So I've gone back to the HDR and its now playing fine again!!! The only recent thing I did was re-scan the media . Trevor- Trevor Jasper

That's looking pretty cool, thanks for the link. It looks like it might be OK, assuming it can respond to the media button and associated key presses (via a macro record) to get it to play some audio... Will try it out later. Thanks again, T- Trevor Jasper

So there's a slim possibility that this could be extended to include other media options? I would find such a webif virtual remote control useful and mostly what I would want to do. I guess I need to look into the virtual remote control package. Thanks, T- Trevor Jasper
