After booting into maintenance mode and unmounting the disk, I have tried using "badbbocks" as in:
badblocks -vv /dev/sda
to check for bad block, and then look at the reallocation count to see if the disk is dying. Is there a better way of checking and re-allocating for badblocks?
I'm looking...
I asked this as I would like to use the audio playback of the hummy without having the telly on to see what's being played/controlled by the remote.
I hoped someone would have a similar interest to myself in this thread...
Hi, af123.
Haven't posted in a while, but one of the things that annoys me is having to have the TV on to see what's happening with the remote when trying to play music. I have quite a few albums stored on the Humax and I would use the humax as a media player much more if I could control it...
Well I have just done it. Running the auto-unprotect script is not enough. Make sure the file has been decrypted. I used the menu option to decrypt, which when completed replaced the original with the decrypted item. Then it will play in VLC from the network share. I used "local" to indicate...
With Samba installed, you could browse to the network share and open the file using VLC, as long as the auto-decrypt in place has done it's stuff. Then VLC is being played locally, with transport control, but you're still "streaming" in that you don't have to copy the file in the first place...
Surely, if Shopps is using the unmodified software, then only the HDR media server can be used, and that will ONLY stream to another certified client/device which is HDCP approved (maybe only for HD content)? At least, that was my understanding, and as far as I'm aware, XBMC is not so approved.
From Post 62, are you sure media sharing is on? If so, you might need to reboot the box and it may take some time for the media server to index the recordings to list them for sharing.
I know I have been able to use the remote to copy and move files on the HD box - I believe you should be able to do that with the standard firmware. The custom firmware shouldn't affect it at all and was based on being able to use that ability. I have been able to boot into HDR mode using just...
Bear in mind that transport controls of the Humax media server are not part of the customised firmware. If xbmc implements them correctly, then they'll work, otherwise you'll need to try another DLNA client. Since Samba, I now use VLC to play the files from the share and have full transport control.
Hi, dooferdog,
I don't have a MBP but I also sometimes find the windows XP finder a bit slow, so I usually type the IP address in as \\xxx.xxx.x.xxx into Windows Explorer and it finds the box straight away. Also, I have now configured the Humax boxes to be fixed IP addresses outside the DHCP...
I, too had this issue trying to copy a 3.5GB mkv file using Samba in win7 64bit. Repeatedly no go with no space left on device errors, and zero length files left. I resorted to copying it directly onto the HD external HDD. As far as I am aware, both boxes up to date with latest samba. So it's...
What would be really cool would be to have webif have a front end to "get_iplayer" but that's a serious amount of work beyond my mortal capabilities..... but sooooo cool! :frantic:
Oh, now that's cute and what technology's for!!!
Sounds like you have a user/password issue. I'm guessing there's a log file somewhere in /tmp which may give you a clue.
We get this often too, if the timing isn't right between the Samsung TV and the hummy. Waiting for the HDR to properly power down and then powering it up before putting the telly on works. The hummy HAS to get to the channel display on the front before attempting to get the telly on, otherwise...
Oijonesey, what about asking Drutt if his utility can be compiled as a PC application, then you can use that as your PC-based application?
What about it, Steve. Can this be a PC application, or does it require stuff unique to the Humax?
I does seem to be quick enough. I thought I'd read that the decryption seemed to slow down people's wget transfers? Maybe I'm mis-remembering. Whatever, it fine for me.
And I'm glad you have thrown out some of your stuff. Scratched a few people's itches, I bet. Have posted request to the other thread, so we'll see what happens. The decrypt-in-place is SUCH a cool feature and now people need not fear losing the box (warranty replacement or whatever) and thus...
Oh, I don't know! The speed of development these days. Fixes take literally hours to come out :D :D :D
Works for me here in that the decrypted file downloads with full name, non-decrypted files are still xxxx.ts. Seems perfect to me!!
Thanks af123 - we all owe you so much for your work over...
Just tried FTPing versus the download via the webif click download. The decrypted file and an encrypted file FTP'd off at 2.58MB/s and 2.68MB/s respectively. Using the webif download, the decrypted xxx.ts file downloaded at 2.6MB/s versus the encrypted file at 2.5MB/sec with on-the-fly...
