An update on the original issue - the playback freeze only happens if the hummy is recording at the same time. If no recording is in progress then no freezes.
Well it's standard firmware - I've only had it since December. So just copying to a USB device is sufficient to decrypt the files? If so, why wouldn't copying to my laptop work?
Thats because the 7612 series DOESN'T work - if you'd read the thread carefully (and mt posts upthread) you'd have seen that I tried it and it failed. you HAVE to get the 7711 series, and they are readily available from Amazon, so you can't have looked too hard ;)...
Dongle should be "plug & play" though you may need a driver on a laptop. Turn off the built-in wireless in your laptop, then plug in the Humax dongle - you should be able to connect to your router with it that way. That way you should be able to identify what it is that is preventing connection...
That did cross my mind lol - but having played about, it seems I get no better result on screen whether the dongle is in the front or the back, so the white one's at the back of the hummy, and the black ones now in my laptop (crappy Dell card has never worked properly, a "known fault").
Well an Edimax EW-7612UAn DIDN'T work - bought because it was black, rather than the white EW-7711UAn as I wanted to fit it to the front, not back, of the Humax. So I had to stick the EW-7711UAn I already had in the back (white aerial on the front would have looked naff) and it worked straight...
Well, a summary. Conversion to Mpeg4 (as suggested to me on another forum) does indeed work - but the conversion (in Mpeg Streamclip) takes 4x real time!. However conversionds to MPEG and TS and TSVID all take 2-3 minutes each for a film. And MPEG and TS both play, TSVID not recognised.
There's also an option (slightly slower than the convert to TS but still a lot quicker than convertiung to MPEG) to convert to VID file format. I'll give both a try and see what happens.
Ok, well the conversion to MP4 is slooooooow - 8 hrs for a 2'45" recording. But it will also convert to TS format - and that takes about 30sec / hour. I'll experiment and see if the TS file conversion will play. Unless anyone here hah tried it?
I've searched, but can't find the answer :-) though I expect it's here somewhere! I'm migrating from a toppy to a hummy. I've exported my .REC files from the toppy (using Altair) to my laptop and will be converting them to another format for the hummy to play.
1) What format should I convert...
Yep - after all that's what I've been doing for theast 5 yearsith the toppy :-) although I agree a series link is a much better thing as it compensates for the vagaries of scheduling.
Thanks guys - but would an auto-switch work? Stupid question I know, but how would it know which input to prioritise to the output? I've a simple passive 2-into-1 scart connector that I tried , and when the DVD was switched on the TV picture went haywire and wouldn't play back the DVD output...
I've replaced my Toppy with a FOX T2 Humax, but have run into a problem connecting it up with the TV and DVD. With the Toppy it was easy - it has a scart pass-through, so it was DVD>scart>Toppy>scart>TV.
I should mention that the TV is an old CRT one, with 1 scart and 1 co-ax input. The DVD is...
