Many thanks to everyone who has replied.
Meanwhile, the gateposts seem to have moved a bit. We're now getting more and more instances of picture breakup while we are in residence, with the house at normal temperatures. When this happens, if use the connected TV's own tuner rather than that of...
Thanks for your very helpful replies. To deal with the points which you raise . . .
The aerial is a decent multi-element (log periodic?) jobby which I installed on the chimney about 10 years ago and appears (from the ground) to be still in good condition and correctly aligned on Sutton...
I don't think there's a condensation problem. The Humax is under the TV in a corner of a carpeted room - a long way from external walls or windows, and there's never any sign of condensation on the (double glazed) windows when we return home, having been away.
I haven't personally scrolled...
Hmm. Any other ideas? Is it just coincidence that there's a problem with the signal when we're away?
Another thought . . . The aerial signal to the Humax comes (along with other TVs and FM radios) via a Labgear distribution amplifier. Could that be playing up and degrading the signal when it...
Very odd! If I watch the same thing on a computer, I have full transport control. Is it really beyond the wit of Humax to make the T2 do the same thing?

We've been away for a few days twice recently, and left the T2 to record some programmes while we were away. When we're not here, the house is unheated - except that the frost stat should turn the heating on to prevent the temperature falling below 10 degrees.
On both occasions, some of the...
If you're watching a programme by using BBC iPlayer via the Portal, and you want to navigate to a different part of the programme, how do you do it?
My wife was watching an episode of Call the Midwife yesterday, and wanted to skip over the bits she'd already seen, but none of the navigation...
Silly me! I forgot the USB bit, having not done it for a while. By copying the files to a USB drive and then ftp-ing them to my computer, NCH Switch converts them to .MP3 with no problem.
Yes, ok - it would be even easier with the custom firmware - but I have a solution for the time being...
I have a similar poblem. I have recorded some radio programmes - so there's no meaningful video, but they're still recorded as .ts files. I want to extract the audio so that I can burn them to audio CDs, but haven't had any success in doing so.
I've ftp'd the .ts files to my computer (both...
Can anyone verify that? Is there any way of recording programmes from iPlayer to watch later - preferably by pre-programming it to dowload at a particular time? [I'm thinking this would be useful for people who are near their monthly bandwidth limit, but can use an unlimited amount in the middle...
Is there any way of doing the copy from the Hard Drive to the USB device remotely from my PC rather than using OPT+ on the HDR's remote control. This would save having to interrupt other family members' viewing.
