I recommended something like this to my parents who were attempting to hide their stuff away in a cabinet;
Marmitek Invisible Control infrared receiver
Sounds like your NAS handles the media serving duties a bit better than the HDR-Fox T2. I guess it's all down to how they've implemented the DLNA server in the box itself.
1) From what I read before somewhere on the forums, the HD-Fox T2 wouldn't record from the HDR-Fox T2, but it will play back recording from it.. however stuff like ffwd/rwnd isn't great. Seems like it's using DLNA to play back across the devices.
I agree.. putting all this stuff in the TV isn't the way to go. I much prefer a cheaper box that gets regular updates.. a bit like the WDTV Live box. The TV portal on the Humax box isn't great at all.. but at least iPlayer works nicely on it. However, I didn't buy it for the TV portal.

This modified version of the Series Auto-Filer script automatically renames the episodes as they've moved into the sub-folders. That's what I use & it works perfectly :)

Big thanks for the Cut/Nicesplice mod; used it extensively last night to chop down my kids' stuff.. loads more free space & no annoying ad breaks in some of the films he likes. Good work guys!!
If anyone is interested, I've got around to creating a video showing the custom firmware in action.. including how to install it from scratch. There's one long video, and I've also broken it down into 6 parts.
When I looked at packaging the filer script up, the hard part looked as though it'd be how to alter the cron job without obliterating existing entries, or adding double entries for the auto-filer if subsequent upgrades were applied.
I guess the main thing is picking a method/software that is not proprietary and has a server implementation that is light & easy to get onto the Humax. And having existing clients available for iPhone + Android would save time/hassle. Air Mouse and Unified Remote aren't really an option, but...
Or from a smartphone app like they're doing on the 3View box here;

On my HTPC I use Unified Remote.
