Personally, I wouldn't do that. Experience has taught me that trying to manage a mixture of static and dynamic IPs will sooner or later cause you grief. You should devise a scheme for your whole LAN and stick with it. A static IP might work OK on your Hummy, but what of you have a device that...
Noisy mains perhaps? Electronic dimmer switches can cause electrical noise, as can compact fluorescent lights (someone mentioned those), faulty thermostats on fridges, central heating systems etc.
Since two people have had the same problem with two boxes it seems to point to something in their...
Thanks guys. I'll look into changing it when connected to a Linux box.
Curiously, the drive was originally formatted HFS+ (Mac default file system) and using a GUID partition map (in order to make Mac-bootable partitions). The Hummy didn't see the disk at all so I re-formatted it FAT32 on my...
Is it possible?
When I formatted the USB drive I've attached to my Hummy it was named USB-1
If I press Opt+ when it's selected the Rename option is disabled.

Bought July 2010 (when they first came out). Recently started with an HDMI handshaking problem that only manifested itself when the box was recording - no picture or sound on the TV when the box came out of standby. When it wasn't recording it worked fine.
Humax did an...
Well, they were first class.
The replacement box arrived today. Got home, connected it up, switched it on and...nothing, nada, dead as the proverbial Dodo. The fan doesn't run, the HDD doesn't spin up, the button light and display don't come on. I cannot believe that this box was tested. :mad...
Foxy is a neat program but as it's a native Windows app it's not a lot of use to those of us who don't use Windows. However, it's easy enough to do without Foxy as long as you feel comfortable using a binary/hex editor.
I used 0xED on my Mac but there are hundreds of bin/hex editors out there...
Just to close this thread/saga off...
I re-installed .32 as recommended by Humax Support but, as I expected, it's made no difference. Although the box is way out of warranty they will do a warranty exchange at £110 for the 500GB version (which mine is) or £130 for the 1TB version. Can't say...
Well, I think I've covered all of those. I've done the following:
Tried a different HDMI input on the amp.
Tried a new HDMI cable
Tried connecting the Hummy directly to the TV thus by-passing the amp
Upgrading the s/w from .29 to .32
Done a Factory Reset (which should cover any settings...
Hmm, interesting that mine has only just started showing the problem then
Maybe it's electronic components going out of tolerance with age, e.g. capacitors losing capacitance
I'll try your tip of leaving it on, although if I leave it on (when it's working) and switch the A/V amp...
I did a Factory Reset and it solved the problem - or so I thought, but it hasn't.
I have, however, figured out the circumstances under which the problem occurs. It only occurs when the Hummy is recording. When it isn't, it starts up as normal. Since we hardly ever watch live TV it tends to be...
Thanks!
If I don't fix the original problem and get a new Hummy I will probably install the custom firmware on this one then (and maybe the new one too).
Thanks for all your help

Ah, OK, thanks. BTW, I e-mailed Humax Support about the original problem and got a reply suggesting a Factory Reset. I thought that's what a software update did (or effectively the same thing) so I'll try this over the weekend.
While searching for an answer to the USB issue I can across this...
Hmmm, I've done that and found that a SD programme is copied to the USB without the .hmt file, whereas a HD programme (with the edited .hmt file) includes the .hmt so, when I browse the USB from the Media screen I see the HD programme display properly (as it is for recordings on the HDD) but the...
If I was replacing the box I'd install the custom firmware - might do so anyway. I know how to remove the encryption from HD programmes (without Foxy, just a hex editor) but from the tinkering I've done with a USB stick, anything copied to USB just appears as a file, i.e. you don't have the...
I've been away on holiday but now I've finally got around to buying a new HDMI lead, but the problem still persists. I've also tried connecting it directly to the TV and it still has the same problem.
So, I think that pretty much confirms that the problem is with the Hummy (which I suspected...
Yep, almost identical symptoms (I did search, but my search terms didn't get a hit on that thread).
Strangely, it seems to have fixed itself. I swapped the HDMI inputs the Hummy and Apple TV use on the amp and the last 4 times I've switched on it has worked even though when I first tried this...
I agree, which is why I'm concerned that it's a hardware fault and that the box will fail completely sometime.
Nothing that I can think of. I did once (months ago) change the audio settings to a music setting as music streamed from my iPhone via the Apple TV didn't sound too good, but the...
I was thinking it was to do with the HDMI communication.
Interestingly, I left the Hummy on (as opposed to in standby) last night. I've just turned the TV on (which starts up the A/V amp automatically) and at first there was sound and a picture, but when the amp switched the sound to the...
