      Can you d/l a whole programme onto disk in iPlayer, like you can on a PC? My 'net connection isn't fast enough to stream HD so I either have to watch the SD version (when using my TV or BD player), or use the Mac.

      It will update automatically over the weekend as long as it's in standby - unless you've turned off auto-standby (or your good lady watches TV in the wee small hours).

      Can't say I've noticed how it sounds as I usually skip over the continuity announcements, but I'm sure I've noticed that while most, though not all, programmes are multi-channel, the continuity (and adverts on the commercial HD channels) are only stereo.

      Why do you need HD? Isn't it going out on mux1? edit just re-read the DTG site. The HD d/ls are not on mux 1 - my bad :(

      Thanks for all the help guys. I know about ffmpeg to identify the encoding used and to transcode but was hoping for a list of available codecs to avoid trial and error. Good to hear Humax plan on adding more - though if and when obviously apply here :p Very useful link that Mr. Lazy - thanks :)

      Is Tapatalk actually working? I've been trying to use it to access these forums for a couple of weeks now. Tapatalk finds hummy.tv but when it tries to connect I get the message that the forum is temporarily closed.

      Thanks for confirming that, and yes, I am aware that real-world speeds are significantly less that the "headline" speed - at least it shoudl be ~10 times faster than Fast Ethernet :) I'll be using it for backing up 10s of GB. Just bought myself a Intel PRO 1000/MT card off eBay and a Zyxel...

      Got my media server set up (MediaTomb on Ubuntu Linux) and was trying it out last night. There seems to be a limited number of codecs installed on the HDR as it was only able to decode about half the files. The rest it just said "Unable to support this format". Judging by the time it takes...

      I agree with you Wyniro, but I imagine that the likes of us who frequent tech forums like this are a tiny - miniscule even - percentage of Humax's customers so it's not really going to harm their reputation - or sales - noticeably by taking this approach.

      I realize that this can't be addressed by a firmware u/g but for future designs, I wish Humax would make the PVR, TV, etc. device selection buttons recessed to make accidently pressing them almost impossible. Far too many times I, or someone else, has inadvertently pressed one of the other...

      Good point! Really Humax have brought this on themselves. The box the HDR comes in has October as the availability date clearly printed on it (although there is probably some small print disclaimer too - mine's in the loft so I can't check) so by being this late delivering people are bound...

      Anyone know? Seems to be as bad now as when I first used it a few years ago. It uses Flash or Java so doesn't work on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. It isn't available on my Sony TV or Blu-ray player and, I imagine, won't be on the Humax TV Portal either. Even on a PC/Mac it's terrible. The HDR...

      IIRC, that wasn't really humax's fault. BBC changed the way they transmitted/encoded the EPG data on the HD channels, right about the time Humax released the HDR.

      On the subject of HomePlugs. If I get a gigabit switch, connect a HP, my laptop, and my Linux box to it, then data transfer between the two computers will be at gigabit speeds? In other words, the packets are routed directly between the two rather than via the router (i.e. via the HP)? IIRC...
