I've take your advice had a proper look at that page, and it certainly looks like it is that capacitor, doesn't it. I felt it might be a capacitor somewhere but would not have picked that one without a schematic.

Yes it does need a bit of air dusting. I am wondering if there is a short glitch in the power supply to the main board. I've not put a scope on it yet but that is next.

My T2 is starting and a second or so after the FW notice is shown, it shuts down and starts up again. I've done a bit of trouble shooting, the 12 & 5 volt supplies drop to zero and the system initialises again. The HHD can be read using a windows PC and software to read and copy data on the...
Not much of a description, so let me elaborate. For example, if the Page Up button is pressed the T2 will keep scrolling through channels until the Page Down button is pressed. Same when the circular up/down is pressed, Ch search or Media search. Also commands are ignored several times before...

I should add a suggestion. Check that your grandson has not been using an Xbox on the port where your Hummy is normally plugged in.
