Hmmm.
That'll require me finding another disk to try.
In the meantime, I did get my maths wrong - the write rate is actually 18GiB/s, so it's a mere day to do a backup.
And I've just tried an ftp (filezilla) to exactly the same disk, connected to PC this time, and this is through the router...
OK, test results:
I checked the disk with chkdsk /f. I also did a chkdsk /r just for good measure. No problems. I had only just created the partition anyway.
I turned off the 3 hour "automatic power down".
I set off a copy to USB of 5 files, total 10.5GB, overnight.
This worked fine !
I...
For what it's worth, I had the same problem today, hanging at the same place initially, and then hanging only a few lines into the installation on several further attempts.
Problem solved first time without using telnet as follows (could be a coincidence!):
Disconnect from LAN
Reinstall CF...
OK.
Also, should I turn off the auto shutdown (looking at another post)?
In my case it's transferred about 6GB - so at a rate of 2GB/hour for 3 hours. That sounds a bit slow.
I'm trialling a disk backup in anticipation of hard disk exchange for two aging HDR-Fox T2's.
First, is the fastest transfer time via USB2 rather than LAN, or otherwise? I'm using a Freecom toughdrive.
I installed "auto-unprotect" and "NTFS 3G". Only 4 recordings on my test machine, two are HD...
... but I don't have a duff recording at the moment. I'm setting BBC4 every day hopefully wishing for failure (!!!).
The hot candidate is Leeds Piano Competition on 25th, as I lost part 1 last week (and deleted it!)
Thanks BlackHole & MontyEvilTwin for your last posts. It makes clear all the options.
I've already spent a fair time trawling through the previous posts etc to get an overall picture. Anyone new coming here will just want clear instructions what to do.
I presume that if you are not bothered...
OK I apologise.
There isn't any other proms TV program - there's been a lot of them as you know and I've lost track. I do have some successfully recorded.
There is part 2 of Leeds Piano Competition at 7:30 on 25th (tomorrow)- I'm pretty sure I lost part 1, and I've set this next on both PVRs...
Can't add any other identification. There is at least one more Proms program at about 7:30pm in the following week (I've already set it). As for the China documentaries, they were about 2am - suggest search the EPG in case they are repeated. I've lost lots in the past but just assumed it was...
I have two Foxs - one with custom firmware and one with standard. Both up to date 1.03.12. Both on padding.
Last week I set both to record the same program on BBC4 at 7:30pm - one of the "Proms" programs.
Both recordings were scrambled. As it is known WHAT goes wrong and how to fix it, this...
I suspected what turned out to be the correct interpretation, but wasn't sure. Seen a lot of occasions where different words are used intentionally to mean different things. So there could have been something very subtle about "update" versus "upgrade".
Using "package list" is good, but there...
Yes, I see. Doesn't seem like it could be put more clearly. Doh!
Both are coming from the internet (which confuses).
Both are "updating", I guess only the packages could be seen as being upgrading as an alternative.
So it's:
Update local list of packages
Update all packages
