Interesting that humax told you to downgrade all the way to 1.01.09 first - maybe that firmware also included a loader?

Annoyed that I'm away this weekend - looking forward to geeking around with this!
Out of interest; do we know if the standard fan speeds changed with newer firmwares? Mine is definitely louder than it used to be (could just be my fan getting old).

My box does 4 cycles an hour - possibly due to poor ventilation.
Looking forward to experimenting :-)
I find the current behaviour a little odd - I'd assumed that the fan scaled up slowly with temperature instead of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Don't really see the...
I sense I've taken this thread a bit off topic (sure the mods won't mind tidying up ;-) )
I've looked at buying a new fan. Unfortunately high quality 50mm fans appear hard to come by and the connector to the humax pcb is non-standard meaning quick tests of new fans is hard (need to remove...
I must have turned into such a humax fanboy! I actually feel a real need to defend an epg!!
That being said, I never had a toppy, so it sounds like a case of not missing what you never had in my case.
I'm more than happy with the epg on the fox t2 but I admit I have always thought of an epg as...
I think there is some variability between boxes regarding the fan noise. The fan has 3 or 4 different speeds it runs at. Mine is silent when at speed 1 or 2 but is audible in a quiet room when it goes faster.
It's likely that other boxes either don't get as hot or have quieter fans overall...
Is the fan control limited to maintenance mode? I'd love to experiment with different fan settings during normal use - ie try to stop it going full blast every 30mins!

Are you sure the input file is definitely 5.1 ? Not all hd broadcasts on freeview are - in fact I believe most aren't.

I think you are being a bit kind to Humax there. I think they just don't have the inclination to add itv player or 4oD to the fox t2 portal. I would be surprised if future Humax boxes do not have this feature

Its ac3 audio that the humax doesn't like when contained in a mkv wrapper so as long as you keep clear of that you should be fine :-)
ac3 audio in mp4 wrapper works fine though.
Mp4 definitely the best option if you have a choice - just dont give up on the mkv's you already have.
And if the...
Get your point regarding the lack of benefits of mkv files, but the humax will play mkv files.
It does struggle with some audio streams when in the mkv container that its fine with when in the mp4 container so I agree that mp4s are the way to go if you're encoding files yourself.

I've got the seagate pipeline 2tb from ebuyer.
Drive is louder than my old 500gb and seems to make my hummy vibrate a little! I just put the hummy on rubber stands and now its ok :-) Nobody else seems to have any issues with vibration so I've probably got a slightly faulty drive.
No issues...
Thought that may be the case.
Its useful for me because I use my humax to download torrents occasionally using the custom firmware torrent client and so my video files are stored on my HDR anyway.
Any files the hummy won't play i have to stream from the humax to my laptop which I then plug...
@selectortone
That combo of audio and video tracks would play on the humax if in the mp4 container rather than mkv (dont ask me why  )
But just renaming wont do - it would need to be repackaged...
The humax can actually do this on the box with the following command
ffmpeg -i...
Box identifier is e636
I've got an Auto Schedule rule that emails me newish movies. Usually get an email every day - I'll have to check when I last had one.
EDIT : last email was on Saturday - but that was from another auto Schedule entry. Looks like its just my movie emails that aren't...
