My Synology DS218j has just been updated to 'DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 2' and immediately had exactly the same problem as yours.
Happily I remembered your post and applied the same change (2. above), ignoring the dire 'insecure' warnings - all now working as before.
Thanks again for recording...
Thanks, if I understand Synology's model designations I think they are quite similar, your DS218play being a bit more powerful than my DS218j.
For what its worth I'm on DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 2. I'll certainly watch out for any firmware update (nothing so far in nearly 3 years).
I expect you...
If it turns out that this is the cause of the problem it would be helpful to know the make and model of your NAS.
[My Synology DS218j has an option to check for updates but not install them automatically.]
The HDR I am looking at lists 33 crashes since May 2018.
As has been said already, by no means all crashes get recorded - I'd say a crash about once every 3 weeks is 'normal'.
Of the 33 recorded in crash.log 11 were between 13-15 seconds after booting.
Just a possibility....
You have installed Samba on the HDR but have you activated it?
In the WebIf open 'Services' and check that the samba line shows ON for 'Auto Startup' and 'Status'.
No need. I allow auto-processing only between 3-4am. A Reminder (on channel 250 to minimize unnecessary activity) is set to wake the box for one hour at 3am, then it goes back into standby.
I expect you've discovered that impatiently pressing buttons on the remote when 'processing' is seen often results in a crash and reboot. I soon learned to touch nothing until the message disappears.
You can reduce the problem somewhat by restricting 'auto processing' to a slot in the wee...
I assume that you, like me, already have youtube-dl installed on your Windows PC.
All I did was to download from the link I quoted the file youtube-dl-win32.zip (you can ignore all the others), and replace my current version of youtube-dl.exe with the version in the downloaded .zip file (I...
The problem of a 'broken' ITV Hub was logged on the support pages of GitHub back in April.
One of their gurus managed to create a fixed version as a temporary measure - hopefully the changes will make it into new releases.
I can confirm that the Windows version does restore ITV Hub download...
If you can't add the network path it might be worth experimenting with the SUBST command.
Then just reference your chosen drive letter instead of the network path.
Something like this:
SUBST W: \\NAS_DS718\Media
I also have a Synology NAS running DSM 6.2
Samba can be enabled very easily. Just sign on as Admin, open Control Panel -> File Services -> Enable SMB Service. Click 'Apply'. That's about it, works flawlessly.
Just seen this reported on BBC News Website...
Climate change: Jet fuel from waste 'dramatically lowers' emissions
A new approach to making jet fuel from food waste has the potential to massively reduce carbon emissions from flying, scientists say.
Currently, most of the food scraps that are...
She had good taste. I bought mine in early 1980's so they're coming up to 40 years old. Beautifully made cabinets.
Crappy sound from flat panel TVs has given them a new purpose in life.
Agreed. In a small room we use a pair of Kef speakers developed from BBC LS3/5a monitors.
Forget soundbars, the improvement is amazing except for some programmes where the sound seems to be doctored to favour tiny TV speakers.
Most feature films on the HD channels of CH4 and CH5, also quite...
