Success! I ran fixdisk overnight and there are no longer any nasty errors reported in Disk Diagnostics. I take it there is nothing else I need to do.
Thank you very much for your support.
Looks like I am not yet out of the woods, unfortunately. When I try to run fixdisk I repeatedly get this message
Please select option: fixdisk
Any additional options (or press return for none):
Are you sure you wish to run the hard disk checker? [Y/N] y

Both reinstalled. However, crontab output and auto.log still look the same to me. At least now expire runs after each recording finishes.
(By the way, this may be a red herring but whenever I install a package I have to manually restart lighttpd using Telnet.)
You are right because the Radcliffe and Maconie folder was processed at 16:05 when today's recording finished.
Here is the crontab output
>>> Beginning diagnostic crontab
Running: crontab

Every line in my auto.log says 'autotrigger'.
I have just noticed that in the last hour the files in the Lauren Laverne folder have expired correctly

Right, I looked again this morning, and there is an auto.log file once more. Here is an extract
23/01/2017 00:05:19 - autotrigger[7861]: got lock
23/01/2017 00:05:19 - autotrigger[7861]: Auto processing starting

It took a bit of head scratching before I realised it needed a reboot to make the beta WebIF available in Package Management!
My T2 is now running 1.4.0 but I can't see auto.log in the list of log files any more.
I have scheduled the daily recording of two radio programmes. Auto-Expire is set on their respective folders (Remove recordings after 2 days, keep at least 2 recordings) but the recordings are accumulating and do not in fact get removed. 'Never delete unwatched recordings' is unchecked.

I ran fix-disk and got this:
Running /bin/fix-disk
Custom firmware version 3.10
Checking disk sda (512 byte sectors)
Unmounted /dev/sda1
Unmounted /dev/sda2
Unmounted /dev/sda3
Running short disk self test
No pending sectors found - skipping sector repair
Checking partition tables...
Sorry if my response appeared dismissive of your suggestion, Luke! I did carefully consider the only two Sweeper rules I had in place:
The first, applied to the whole My Video directory, was one I had actually forgotten about. A silly experiment when I first installed Sweeper:
# Dummy rule
or...
Thanks for the suggestion Luke. It's not Sweeper.
I can't imagine that it would have any effect, but yesterday I changed the setting for Detectads from traditional to chaserun. However, the recordings were all made and processed some time ago so really I am clutching at straws.
I have just noticed that the entire contents of one directory (some 34 recordings) has been moved to another one. I don't think any other files are affected.
Why would this happen and should I be concerned that it is an early warning of more problems to come?
Custom firmware version: 3.10...
The Sweeper ruleset:
# rename
!filename y action {renamefile {%title - %hhmm %longday %date %shortmonth %year}}
# rename2
!title y action {settitle {%title - %longday}}
This is the result when I run Test config:
23/04/2016 18:45 - --- SWEEP SCAN STARTING FOR /media/My Video/Coronation Street...
I have Recursive Auto-decrypt set on the "My Video" folder. For some time I have been getting "auto-decrypt failed" notifications - just for Coronation Street recordings. Sometimes I also get "Detection Length error" warnings too. The files are in fact decrypted so I have simply ignored these...
Oh you mean my avatar! (Penny just dropped.) I thought you were suggesting that I try splitting the rules or something.:confused:
Yes it is the Gregory of Nin statue in Split, Croatia. Give that man a cigar!
