It's a different one to the one in my post #24 - the back is much closer to the genuine one for a start. Looks like there's enough demand for at least two manufacturers to be supplying them.
Bought mine in May '23 and understandably the listing has gone but the same supplier has this listing.
From the pictures it's the same one but £2 cheaper than I paid so I may well get another.
Should add that after testing it was put away as a spare so I can't comment on longevity.
The cheap look-alike remote I got from eBay works OK and I presume they'll all be like it. Caveats are they don't have programming for different devices, only do the default HDR device codes and the 'OK' key is a bit too recessed for my liking.
Agreed the 'No signal' is a bit of a pain but usually I remember to power cycle after a soft reboot. IIRC there's a pad or two marked RESET on the PCB and seeing if adding Reset push button works as anticipated has been on the list for some time.
I've not been able to resist buying HDRs when...
Ta. That restored functionality but left the settings untouched.
As for copying the HDD, I was thinking of what you need to do to copy/clone Windows boot disk. Copying the file structure over is all that's needed here.
I ask as after swapping the HDD from a machine with a tuner issue to a spare machine, it's clear some of the package settings didn't follow the drive. I've spotted that the redring settings and undelete folder name needed to be manually updated for example.
Also the SMB3 Beta package is no...
Looks like Freeview are sounding out how many boxes and TVs are in use that don't support DVB-T2 with a view to using its codecs for SD transmissions in future.
Channel 71 is now using MPEG-4 AVC and HE-AAC codecs that until now have only been used for DVB-T2 (HD). Anything DVB-T2 capable will...
While retuning the main HDR and TV I noticed the noticed the signal levels were a bit low and not the same across the channels.
After checking and messing around including pulling the side off the tuner (it's a single one) and re-soldering the RF In connection to the tuner PCB, I changed tack...
The HDR creates them IME. There's a list of formats it will play somewhere and I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable will expand on this.
FWIW I download from YT via Tartube and YT-dlp converted to MP4 720p on a Windows machine then play them over the network.
There's one niggle I have to...
I really must review my collection of unused machines. There's three in addition to the 2014 V2 original and its so-far unneeded hot-swap spare, plus a HDR2000T. None cost more than £12 and the 2000T was £3 with remote in a charity shop.
No one's commented but I did strip it to just the two parts of the case plus the bare platters. It was just the right weight, footprint and height for the job.
They blot out yellow lines and other road markings, and obscure modern street furniture, but probably they don't 'see' things like TV aerials.
Spotting anachronisms like this has been a pet thing of mine for years. There was a recent TV series that that spanned the 70s to the current day and it...
When the Martin Shaw series 'Inspector George Gently' from 2017 was being publicised one of the articles mentioned how they had gone to great lengths to get all the props correct, giving the lighter in Shaw's pocket as an example even though it was never shown. The first episodes were set in the...
