TLDR, I might have missed some important detail, but if the problem is only how to connect TWO items to wired Ethernet over ONE cable, a PASSIVE SPLITTER offers (potentially) an ideal solution.
Assuming you don't need gigabit Ethernet (or PoE come to that, ie all 8 wires), it works by...
Not a cut-out as such (except the regulators are internally protected), but you would expect it to comply with USB2 standards and typical implementation which uses resistive current limiting.
I understand there are online brokers who will take them at somewhat less than face value, although I'm not sure about minimum quantities. You could donate them to your preferred charity.
...but the only way to display explanatory text. Perhaps the folder could be made read-only?
I guess that will do.
Any milage in renaming "cut" as "crop"?
Removing the orange filter helps restore visibility. The VFD is naturally a green colour, so most of its light gets absorbed by the display filter.

That's no problem at all, all I meant was it isn't necessary for performing crops using the WebIF. See the copy/cut/paste operations.
We understand not everyone can or wants to use the web interface (WebIF), but it is so much more powerful everything else has got left behind. Nicesplice Magic...
No need
As straightforward as choosing "crop" from the OPT+ button displayed alongside each valid recording in the WebIF file browser, and then you get a graphic illustration of what is about to happen.
That's why I didn't recognise what you were saying originally: it's "crop" not "cut".
Now I understand, which would have been MUCH easier with some context in Post 1 (and preferably the title).
As a general rule, if things are not working as expected, it is always worth a reboot – and then if that didn't help, run fix-flash-packages and another reboot.
What "Cut folder"? What "Edit folder"? Some sort of screen-shot would help understand what you're talking about. There are several ways to access this functionality.

...but bear in mind that a lot of the discussion relates to HDR-FOX not Foxsat. Nonetheless, drive requirements should be pretty similar.
However, you've bought a drive and it seems to...
Only as one of the three options. I would be reinstalling the original HDD, preferably reformatted, and seeing what happens then.
But what replacement HDD? Did you take notice of advice on which types/models are suitable?
That's nothing. The OEM HDDs in my HDR-FOXes have hundreds of thousands of hours on them.
As your HDD runs elsewhere, the possibilities are limited:
Corruption caused the instability of the Foxsat, in which case reformatting and reinstalling should cure the problem.
A fault in the HDD power...
Why are you even worrying ahead of trying it? Do you think that's not the sort of thing many of us are doing all the time?
As long as you can get the WebIF on your browser, as a last resort there is the "download" option on the OPT+ menu.
This strikes me as a remarkably small niggle to want to get rid of.
Idle time matters if people have Menu >> Settings >> System >> Power Management >> Automatic Power Down enabled. Basically it gives a WebIF user an idea of how long they've got before the server goes off-line (when Idle...
I used to have a relationship like that. It's now the highway, so it is time she solved her own problems. Bed, lie in it. Not that it's any of my business or concern...
