I guess I meant something which would be comparable to the HDR in terms of features. The Pi solution would be single-tuner, for example, which would fall short of my basic requirements :0(
Interesting idea - thanks. I'd probably struggle to make a usable PVR out of a Raspberry Pi (particularly when the HDR has been my benchmark for a few years), but it sounds like an interesting side project if I ever get the urge to invest in a Pi!
I was interested to read of the Manhattan T3-R on here - I'd never heard of it before. I've been looking at alternatives for my ageing HDR but the one feature that I can't easily find elsewhere is the ability to decrypt and copy HD recordings onto other devices (either for watching on portable...
I agree that the Slingbox is/was a great solution, but Sling Media announced last year that they would be terminating the service in the next couple of years, hence rendering all existing Slingboxes completely useless and worthless. Very annoying :0(
Great info - thanks. Is there an idiot's guide for downloading and installing these packages? (I tried the Linux instructions from the youtube-dl site in a telnet session and neither the curl nor GET options worked.
I just heard about this, but I don't see qtube in my list of available packages. Is there an idiot's guide to downloading and installing qtube and youtube-dl on the HDR-Fox T2 CF?
Thanks again. I'm increasingly thinking that a LAN-streamed DVB-T2 signal is the way to go for my post-FOXT2 solution, and your solution makes the HDHomeRun a good candidate. It looks like the Quattro is available on Amazon for £150. Tempted to dip my toe in the water this time....
Thanks - it sounds like you've created something really useful. I haven't shelled out for a HDHomeRun (yet) - I still run a PC with a DVB-T2 tuner - but I did consider it along with the VBox a few months ago.
Presumably your solution negates the need for any monthly HDHomeRun monthly...
I've just come across this thread, and am intrigued by references to DVROnTime, as I've toyed with the idea of moving to a DIY PVR for years. I've Googled it, and searched the forums here, but can't find any information about it outside of this thread (although I saw the download link). I've...
Thanks for confirming - that's one less decision to make. So any views re. the relative merits of the two models - any reason to rate one more highly than the other? Just asking in case I need to look at doing a hardware repair,
Would you happen to know if the transplanting the tuner would involve any soldering?
I noticed that the box in the loft has a slightly different rear panel - the RF sockets are aligned horizontally rather than vertically (i.e. the RF out is to the right of the RF in). In the "current" box they...
OK so it does rather look like something dodgy with the tuner component on the Humax. I just plugged in the dusty old box from the loft and it's showing 73% signal strength from the same aerial. Now I need to rediscover whether it really was the fan that caused its banishment to the loft, or...
The Humax was powered on when I tried it, so presumably would have been passing the RF signal through. I just tried taking the Humax out of the loop as you suggested - unplugging the input and output RF cables from the Humax, coupling them and sending the output to the TV. The signal was fine on...
