I share your pessimism, but decided to update the firmware anyway, as I usually block the OTA updates. So while the procedures were fresh in my mind, I thought I'd do it. Unfortunately, it still didn't work. I tried 3 different USB sticks, all freshly reformatted to FAT32. My hummy just ignored...
Thanks. It was the bit about holding the V button that I did not know about, of course. I expected to find these instructions in the vicinity of the firmware download page, but I couldn't see it. I tried a Google search or two as well.
I'll try again with these instructions, provided I can get...
I tried this, but it did not work. It took 6.5 hours to copy the recordings from the USB stick backup to the HDD and the hummy stayed up all that time. However, I tested it immediately it had finished and it froze again.
A typical freezing sequence is as follows:
1. To unfreeze the hummy I...
Can you point me to the instructions to update via USB stick please? I've looked online without success, so I reverted to the instructions for my old HDR-Fox T2, but without success. I tried with two different USB sticks, both newly formatted to FAT32 and with just the file hdr2000t_upgrade.hdf...
Yes, I was misremembering what happened with my old Toppy. It did stop working altogether when the capacitors broke. So, that's one potential hardware fault I can rule out.
Good suggestion. The problem persists, so I'll give that a go.
I did try holding it for a while and it didn't help...
Thanks for your detailed response. I'll try to answer each of your questions in turn.
I bought the HDT-2000T several years ago brand new. It has worked fine until recently, not counting the occasional, as you say, 'feature'. The crashes and freezes have become increasingly common over the...
The hummy crashed and froze when I did the factory reset. It took several power cycles and a long wait before it recovered. I did an automatic search for a firmware update. The search latest several minutes, but gave no indication as to whether it had updated the firmware. Should it have done...
My HDR 2000T keeps freezing, and this is happening increasingly frequently. Usually, some powercycles will unfreeze it, but today I lost count after 4 powercycles, but it ironically eventually came back up while I was demonstrating to my wife that it wouldn't :-(.
When it is frozen, which can...
My HDR-Fox T2 recorder has reset the date to 2nd Jan 1971. There does not seem to be any way to reset it manually. As a result, the EPG is blank. I've done a couple of power cycles, but to no avail.
It has also lost contact with the internet, but this is the lesser worry.
That did it! Of course, the traditional IT Crowd advice. I should have thought of that myself. I was just assuming (wrongly) that there was some principled reason for the strange behaviour. :-)
No, the hummy has not been recording on either of the occasions I tried to manually retune, so unfortunately that's not the cause, but thanks for the suggestion.
I'd like to do a manual retune on my Hummy, but the installation option (along with several other options) is grayed out in the menu. The manual just says I'll be challenged for my password, but says nothing about these options being grayed out or how to ungray them.
I have the packages...
Thanks for the clarification. They might at least have told me they'd done it. As it was, I lost several days of recordings before I discovered the empty reservation list, and then it was only by accident I discovered it, so I might have lost even more.
Some time on Tues 23rd June, between 10am and 9pm, all my reservations were lost and no further recordings were made until I reentered them all. The only cause of lost reservations that I know of is a firmware update, but I thought these usually happened in the early hours of the morning. My...
Sorry, you're right. My box is a HDR 2000T. I misremembered and missed this subtle distinction.
Meanwhile, I've solved my problem. The best place to stick my wireless link transmitter was at the bottom of the metal strip dead centre. I assume it must transmit downwards towards the plastic area...
Where on the front panel of the T2000 is the area that picks up the signals from the remote control? I have a wireless link and I need to stick a transparent transmitter over this area so that the remote control can be used over the wireless link. The manuals never tell you where this area is on...
It just crashed again while in standby and not recording or playing back. When I went to switch it on it wouldn't respond to remote or front panel. So, I power-cycled it. I had to do this twice as it crashed again while booting up. So, it's going back. I've jsut printed off the returns label...
