I didn't see your post, Trev - thank you. I'm really not in a position even to get it out of its hole, let alone open it up. Am really up against it.
"Normal" for this HDD is, as said, as if a fairy drummer lives there. Muffled drumming of fingers since Day1.
I don't mind buying a new PVR...
What a surprise! It just came to life @ the 04:19hr avoid-any-changes time. Here I am on the BBC Red Button channel.
Do you have any advice, taking that into account?
I had been having occasional crash/reboot cycles like OldWindmill but not for a while.
Tonight the box wouldn't boot. I am always busy doing something else at the same time, so don't necessarily see the sequence of events.
Switched off at the back, left it for a good many minutes, switched...
Thank you, 4291, I did send it to him immediately, even phoned him to tell him it was sent. BTW, it was very satisfying to be able to do that because he's so sarcastic about my lack of Google skills (I didn't claim to have found it myself, I forwarded the forum alert email).
Ezra - thanks for...
10 decent pictures of "my own" ospreys won't be easy because the webcams are poor quality. If I come up with them I will PM you, Ezra.
In the meantime - if I try out one of the existing screensavers and then remove it, will it automatically revert to the Humax one?
Thank you!
Not starlings, more like butterflies, sweeet! :D (The kids would like that too, BH.) I do like the larger version in the countryside, not the seaside one.
A screensaver would not be wasted on me cos I frequently have to spend a lot of time on pause. Waiting now to see what you come up with...
I was on the phone to a friend when I saw the email alert re your post, so I told him about it... one thing led to another and we got onto flocks of starlings - you know, that fantastic display they make whilst getting ready to roost. Well, he said that Richard Dawkins said that the same effect...
Ezra, I can imagine how annoyed they were
Thanks for the pointer, af123, it is as I thought :( Maybe one day  (that's a "pigs might fly" smiley).

I'm trying to think of a word I've never seen before, but unfortunately that's one task that has to be done for you by others
UAn just arrived, Hummy powered off, UMn removed from front, UAn inserted in back with mini aerial sticking up :) Wifi was not disturbed in the slightest, except the IP address has changed yet again, so...
Done that. If any problems crop up on the network I shall explore other options kindly...
I fondly imagined that the software-writers have the means at their fingertips if only the producers would make user-friendliness a priority. That doesn't just apply to Humax.
Am waiting for my Edimax 7711-UAn to arrive (to replace the borrowed UMn), somewhat nervously ;) I'll let you know...
Thanks, Ezra. I've always had gripes with Humax, both the 9200 and this one, but "strength" is not one of them. I might have worried that too many add-ons might clutter it though.
It's amazing that amateurs have given their skills and time to make it so amenable and functional, which backs...
Thank you both! Yes, I shall turn off the advanced package list, please be assured I wouldn't do anything without asking you first :) Not that it'd be any skin off your nose if I did mess up - except I'd be here wailing and taking up more of your time ;)
Hi fellas, just logged on to Hummy's IP (it hadn't changed this time) to go thru the available firmwares again, and loads of the installed ones are a complete mystery to me, I'm sure I didn't install them. Could you have a look and tell me if they could have been installed as part of something...
Oh I read that ages ago, remember it perfectly now! (Just wait till you're one-hundred-and-two :( ). As I can be watching a recording at any time of the day or night I don't think I'll risk the pitfalls you mention. I record very little from non-BBC channels and what little I do has lots of...
"Issues" which I would be grateful for guidance on.
Big panic when I couldn't load Hummy's IP address to install some packages - it turned out that it had changed yet again. Is there a way to make it "static"?
BH, I don't have Daily reminder from your bomb-proof list in my packages...
I needed merely to tell NoScript to allow the new IP address!
Disable OTA being the No1 priority, that's done. To test if installations are working I've also installed redring and set it to Clock = success!
I shall have a read around here and learn which packages are must-haves (besides...
