Mongoose used to be required for webif but was replaced by lighttpd a couple of years ago. You should just be able to uninstall Mongoose now. If it does not want to uninstall, do it from the command line with '--force-depends'.
Trynugget status to see which version is loaded into the kernel. Although you can see the options for the latest version, you may need to reboot for it to be loaded up.
I think that using weak or semi-weak keys has the same effect as making key 1 = key 2, i.e. it reduces triple DES to DES. It is a shame that the units can't be coerced to carrying out even numbers of decryption passes: double or quadruple DES would produce unencrypted output if you made key 1 =...
I don't know if it is a bug or a feature, but the latest version of stripts does not work like the examples above. Even if you have changed the encryption key with nugget, stripts still uses the unit's original key by default. To get it to decrypt a recording made with a modified key, you have...
I found a useful reference here. The main aim of this is to explain different padding types, i.e. methods to use when the data to be encrypted is not an exact multiple of the block size, but it exemplifies how the decryption works.
So it is possible to overwrite the default encryption key at boot then.
I don't know much about cryptography, so please set me straight if I am talking nonsense. Is it possible to to set the encryption key so that the output equals the input? Either a dummy or null string (don't know what to...
I think that the long string (derived from the MAC address and serial number) is split into smaller keys. If I am correct, with the HDR-FOX, key 1 = key 3 so there are effectively two keys derived from the main string.
Edit: This is already explained in post #25.
Is the queued decryption method now working for the HD-Fox? I have the opkg-beta package installed on my HD-Fox, and I have updated stripts to 1.4.0 and webif to 1.4.3, but when I queue a recording for decryption it does not happen; the queue table says "defer, DLNA server not running".
With this new decryption method and the Youtube-dl package for downloading YouTube and iPlayer, BootHDR will soon be on its way to the package repository in the sky. It may bump into 'unencrypt' when it gets there.
Is the PUIS feature (power up in standby) enabled on your hard drive (I wondered if this was an issue in a past thread concerning disk initialisation problems: see here)?
The PUIS feature is available on Seagate Ironwolf drives. It is easy to check by running the following from the command line...
If you look in Webif>Diagnostics>Disk you will see a summary of disk SMART statistics. The parameter to keep an eye on is Load_Cycle_Count (see here). If this low (hundreds) then intellipark is not a problem. If the value is in the thousands and increasing rapidly then you probably should use...
The disk in question is not strictly an 'AV' drive. It may have intellipark activated (see here). If it does, it will be trying to park the head every 8 seconds. I believe that you can check this with smartmontools on the HDR-FOX. Based on the age of the drive, if intellipark is active, you...
Can you still receive the local mux from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter? It was supposed to have moved from 51 to 48 but I can't pick it up at all now here in Worcs. They may have dropped the power or changed the transmission mode. It is hard to find reliable information.
Sorry if I misled you, mvdisks will not work in your situation. I was just illustrating the fact that it is possible to mount one drive within another automatically. You could do some testing from the command line: for example create a folder in the extra partition and link it to 'My Video' to...
