So now I've managed to install the firmware via USB I can offer these notes on humax's instructions.
Start with the box depowered.
The file they link to for download is not zipped and can go into the usb stick as-is.
This only worked for me with 1 out of 3 USB sticks. 2 older SanDisk cruzer...
thanks f or that. for some reason i had abount an hour of normalish remote operation this afternoon so i managed to reset (which didnt help either) so i wont bother him for it now but its good to know there's one available.
I'm trying to reload the firmware to reset the box. It's not recognising remote commands properly (it's not the remote) and a factory reset has been suggested but i cant do that if it doesnt recognise the remote so im going to use the firmward upgrade process, even though its with the version it...
I tried all case combos - google searches turned up all lower, mixed and title cases.
However, the good news is that the reset did the job!
Thanks everyone!
no, I'm not really that stupid but thanks for asking. Not only did I go back through this thread I googled for others before posting. I tried humaxftp and 0000 as well as the ones i have set and it didn't work.
well, i did get it working about 8 months ago and did what i needed to do. i just tried it again and its not working again. i got this log:
Status: Connecting to 192.168.0.6:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response: 220 Welcome to Foxsat...
i've tried a couple of other browsers. i reinstalled vlc 2.05 including the mozilla plugin.
in ie9 i get a black window with a small vlc logo
in mozilla firefox i get an error that says a plugin is missing
in chrome i get a jigsaw icon and a plugin missing message.
I've tried vlc 2.04 and...
Hmmmn. Definitely 2.0.5 (also says 'twoflower', whatever that is.)
I'll just do a quick sanity check in case i'm being stupid again:
I open webif in ie9
click on 'browse media files'
click on an SD recording
window opens with media details including a play button
click on play button
play...
Found it tucked away in an archive on the vlc website.
I rolled back to 2.05 but I still have the same issue: the play page comes up but the play window just shows a black frame with the VLC logo displayed in the centre. Buttons can be pressed but nothing happens.
ahh - quickfire round....
I've installed everything except the mozilla element.
I can already play in VLC from a file directly, it's the handy play function in the HDR foxsat webif I'm trying to use.
I'll go back to v2.05 and see if that works - do you know if it's available on the vlc site?
I did search for the vlc plugin for explorer but i couldn't find one to download and concluded it loaded with the vlc installer. during installation it lists optional extras and it looked like the IE plugin was included. If anyone can point me to a seperate download i'd be grateful.
Thanks for your responses.
I'm trying to play from the HDR's hard drive.
I thought the browser plugin was installed with VLC unless you chose not to. Please could you tell me where i can get it?
