Question...when is a firewall not a firewall ? Answer...when you're using a Fritz!Box 7530 router.
The firewall in the Fritz!Box is not a true firewall. Yes, you can add a website to the Blocked Websites list. You can assign that to an Access Profile. You can then assign that Access...
Mmmm.. my router has various access profiles that I can set-up. I have one that blocks the YouView URL. When I assign my Mac to that access profile and try to access YouView, it is blocked. Yet assigning the Humax to the same access profile, it isn't. I can still see packets going back and...
Posted up on the Wire Shark forum and the answer came back very quickly. Rather than use a switch as had been suggested by a colleague, a hub is needed et voila....all sorts of goodies come into view. I've captured a load of stuff and need to disect it. But at first glance I can see a few...
LOL...already thought of that and removed my Capture filter. Just displaying anything with the Humax IP address. The crazy thing is that those thumbnails come down more or less in real-time. You start recording a programme and you will see a thumbnail for it in Recorded.
@gomezz Update software and Update apps seem to do nothing at all. You can unplug the internet cable and you get the same onscreen response after selecting either of those two options !
@prpr So what mechanism would the Humax use to determine if there was an update waiting ? Just...
With access to those two IP addresses blocked, I can still see the thumbnails which is perplexing. Is the block working ? I tried Settings > Update apps and sure enough, the Humax told me that there was no internet access.
Something is very strange. To test whether I have successfully blocked access to 'phone home' to check if there is an update, I go into Settings and select Update Software. It comes back and tells me that it's up-to-date.
Now the Humax does a multicast to 224.0.0.22 and sometimes 224.0.0.251...
But I'd need to know the IP addresses to block. I'd also lose the small thumbnail images that populate the Recorded display if I completely blocked the Humax. They come down the line.
That would be me in the absence of anyone posting what it is. I've already had a quick peek trying to provoke a 'phone home' request but without much success. Next step will be to leave WireShark logging overnight.
As for iPlayer etc, we never use the Humax box for that as it's now too slow...
Does anyone know the URL's or IP addresses of the YouView update as I'd like to block it and only update if and when I want to. That will prevent another repeat of the latest ghastly (IMO) user-interface mash-up.
TIA
Picked this virtually new unit up from my mother last week. All working fine. But now no video. Sound is fine. It responds to the remote (well, I can change channels and hear the sound change so guess it is responding). Checked the SCART connection..seems plugged in OK. The guide mentions...
Out of curiosity I had a quick look at the various offerings on Amazon and a look at the customer reviews. On balance Humax actually comes out reasonably well with only around a 10% 1* rating on the 9150, say. But then reading the comments shows QA is not Humax's strong point. Having said...
Well just spoke to Humax tech support. Trying to tell me that it is a signal problem. When I pointed out that the Hitachi was fine recording the same programme he told me that that was the problem...two devices meant that the signal was split 50 % between the two boxes! The fact that the Humax...
I don't agree. It is not unreasonable to ask for a simple PVR that does not have any inherent problems. Nor did I say or imply that all PVR's had inherent problems so please don't put words into my mouth. I simply asked for recommendations for a basic PVR.
