16 yrs old Foxsat HDR pw808 board issue (I think)

Hello all.

I am a brand new member and I wish to be upfront and honest, I have joined because I have an issue with my long time owned and much used Humax Foxsat HDR.

I have never been a ‘modder’, the only things I have ever done are OTA updates and I replaced the HDD with a larger one.

The 2009 Foxsat HDR has suddenly started taking longer and longer to boot, and then when it finally starts there are no channels that have a signal (all the channels are still there but none work).

Hard drive seems fine, all of the recordings can still be watched.

I tentatively believe that the power supply has failed.

Both the physical sat dish and lnb are seemingly operating fine as they still supply the tv (directly using its own sat connector) with a good strong working sat signal which allows all channels to be watched.

I have read that the capacitors can fail on the smaller power supply board but despite my best efforts I cannot see a failed capacitor on the psu board.

Nor can I see the much discussed C12, C13/23, C14 capacitors on the board.

If I post a picture can anyone out there with far more experience than me kindly identify which capacitors should be replaced? And perhaps where to source them?

It seems that I have been very lucky with the lifespan of my Foxsat HDR and honestly I am of the opinion that a repair has got to be worth a go before spending a lot of money on a new hdr.

Regards

I can't understand how you correlate "longer and longer to boot" with the PSU. If the PSU were faulty, it would probably not boot at all, or be unstable (eg reboot multiple times before settling down).

Nor can I see the much discussed C12, C13/23, C14 capacitors on the board.
Where are these "much discussed"?

You are quite correct and it is my poor explanation. It did indeed reboot many many times. I did state that 'I think' it is the psu hence my reason for posting on a forum with more knowledgeable persons

Unlikely to be the main PSU (imho). Possibly a tuner-related issue?

Don't assume that the cables/connections and LNB outputs feeding the -HDR aren't faulty just because another LNB outlet and cable feeding the TV works. Swap cables to check.

First though, what does the TV report for signal level and quality on a (manual) tune to the Freesat Home Transponder frequency? LCN 999 Freesat Information is on that transponder.
DVB-S, 11425 MHz, Horizontal, QPSK, 27500 Symbol rate, 2/3 FEC.

Non-reception of home transponder can mess things up quite well with the -HDR sometimes.

Disconnecting the HDD is another diagnostic tool --- which can prove the tuners are ok and that the problem lies with a failing HDD. Then the Custom Firmware comes into being an invaluable tool!
