Another computer question...

Alright, we would lose even the potential to have control over our borders (and the ability to come out of the "human rights" stuff).

" the "human rights" stuff" That has to be a priority not just to address immigration but also to deal with another issue with travelling vermin known for fly tipping, rogue trading and illegal construction.

We were not part of Schengen and we would continue to not be if we rejoined the EU. And illegal immigration is now a bigger problem than when we were in the EU, because as part of the EU we had the right to automatically return illegal immigrants to other EU states they had come from. This is why the small boats problem has got huge since we left the EU, Boris didn't negotiate right of return as part of our exit treaty. Civil servants did warn him what could happen, but he went for the Rwanda scheme instead as a deterrent.

It was reported at the time that irregular immigrants were swarming south across the Irish border to avoid being sent to Rwanda or whatever. This seems to indicate a level of deterrence. The plan certainly seemed to attract some of our European partnersrivals and former enemies.

As for the "idiot", did he not write the actual book on how to take on the Govt using human rights "law"? The Member for Small Boats, indeed.

Maintaining a vestige of contact with the topic, I acquired a Pure Elan DAB/FM radio that came with a USB-A->9V DC coaxial converter cable (not USB-C, because of age). And yes, I have many, many mains->USB-A adaptors. If only the (other) idiots had fixed on something like USB-C originally ...

My understanding is the Rwanda scheme did not work as a deterrent at all. On top of that it was a) immoral and b) illegal as it turned out.
No one seems to care about the illegal acts the hordes of boat people commit. They can do what they like, but everyone else has to obey the law? Something wrong here.
I'd stop the boats within a week if I were in charge - yes, it would be completely immoral (and I'd make it legal), but who cares? They'd soon learn not to come when they knew what was going to happen to them if they did. Anyone who still tries it after that is pathologically stupid anyway, so deserves what they'd get.

Before it was invented?

it would be completely immoral
I don't hold with morality meaning we have to treat others as we would ourselves, when the "others" in question have no such qualms and belong to different ethnic groups. "Civil" society has forgotten we are in a competition for resources, not a collaboration, and "civil society" will be our downfall.
