Assume v. Presume

I don't think it is too much to drop the use of names coined by our imperialist, colonialist, cloth-eared forebears in favour of the those, still westernised, alternatives preferred by the local inhabitants.

But would you say Paree instead of Paris? You must be consistent if you are going for native pronunciation. Are you going to start pronouncing all US place names with a US accent? Noo Yak? Bastn?

How about Moskva? Antwerpen? Or
北京?
Москва?

I do speak like the natives. The natives of the SE UK.

You a cockney, then? :p Which bit of the SE UK do you speak like?

Yes. And what's wrong with that if you're a southerner where grass is grarse and glass is glars as opposed to the way northerners pronounce it as grass and glass (as in ass the animal) that we southerners also pronounce as ass.

Don't get me started on aunt and ant...

Sounds rude that!

We went to a degree ceremony last week. Robert Winston was awarding the degrees. I couldn't believe the number of graduates who wanted to take a "selfie" with him. The last one to try it got RW doing "bunny ears" behind their head. :p (Not this one though.)

@MikeOOO1. Is that you with RW. If so WTH does Mike stand for?? (Other than the National Anthem of course)
ROFL No it's a TV presenter called Julia Bradbury, and I don't stand for the (non) national anthem either unless it's Charles Ives's Variations on America. (Same tune but far more amusing.)
