Audio Signal Definitions

My iPad produces an output from its headphone/line-out socket which measures 3V peak-to-peak on my 'scope. For a sine wave, that equates to near enough 1V RMS.

Would somebody with an audio engineering background please expound on how that relates to dBV etc etc. I particular, if a piece of equipment is specified as having (eg) an input sensitivity or output of "1V", is that RMS, peak, or peak-to-peak? (I can guess the answer to that one: if not stated, you don't know!)

I only know about pro-audio where 0dBu = 0.775V RMS; max. working signal level is +8dBu and for digital signals max. coding level is 10dB higher than that, so 0 dBu = -18 dBfs (fs being full-scale).
The 'standards' are somewhat more sloppy in the domestic world, but I believe 1V RMS = 0 dBV.
