It looks like the OP has minimised the apps-home-back bottom menu, like auto-hiding the task bar in Linux or Windows.Which that?
Nonetheless, the app's presentation layer really ought to be reactive to the actual screen area available rather than the physical size of the screen, as per modern web design practices, and I would be surprised if there isn't something like HTML (if not actually HTML) driving the presentation layer. It's no good expecting the OS to send a click to you when that area is overlayed by something else – the click message gets sent to the overlying app instead (or in this case the OS itself).
